Book Review: Delta Force Die Hard (Red, White and Built: Pumped Up #3) by Carol Ericson

Delta Force Die Hard (Red, White and Built: Pumped Up #3)
Title: Delta Force Die Hard (Red, White and Built: Pumped Up #3)

Author: Carol Ericson

Stars: 3 1/2 stars

Review:
This is the 3rd in a series and while it is better than the first I still find myself struggling with the story.  Yes its has everything a Harlequin Intrigue read loves; Mystery, Romance, action, suspense murder and of course sex.
The story moves at a decent pace just enough detail without bombarding readers with useless details or characters.
The lead characters needed more flushing out at times but all in all its was a decent read for a night.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Harlequin Intrigue for an advance copy of Carol Ericson Delta Force Die Hard.

Book Review: The Duke I Once Knew (Unlikely Duchesses #1) by Olivia Drake

The Duke I Once Knew (Unlikely Duchesses, #1)
Title: The Duke I Once Knew (Unlikely Duchesses #1)

Author: Olivia Drake

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
The youngest daughter, with 4 older siblings, finds her life being planned for her as if she had no desires of her own although she is only two weeks from turning  30. Having cared for her aging parents until their demise a year previously she knows she must rebel if she is to have any life to call her own. So she announces her intention to become a governess to a Dukes young sister. This is a Duke that she shared a blossoming romance with 15 years earlier. But the Duke has not been home for 15 years. Will fate intervene and true love find a way to come to the forefront? That is what makes this story a delightful read to enjoy from beginning to end.

I have rated this book 4 stars.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Thank you Frank for your Review!

Synopsis:
For years, Abigail Linton devoted herself to caring for her aging parents and the children of her siblings. Now, eager to make her own life, she takes a position as governess on the neighboring estate. It shouldn’t matter that her absentee employer is Maxwell Bryce, the Duke of Rothwell, the infamous rake who once broke her youthful heart. Surely he’s forgotten her, for he hasn’t set foot on his estate for fifteen years. At least, that is, until he arrives unexpectedly.

Max is incensed to meet his sister’s new governess. But why does Abby appear just as displeased to see him when it was she who’d rejected him all those years ago? Why is he so drawn to the independent spinster she has become? And why is there a sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes that suggests they might have a second chance at love?

Book Review: Valentine Candy Murder by Leslie Meier

Title: Valentine Candy Murder

Author:  Leslie Meier

Stars: 3

Review:
I'm not sure if the book is being republished or if it is suppose to feel dated.  While it is a fun story languages, setting and lingo seemed to date the story pulling readers out of the story. It is two books in one story but for some reason they do not feel as if they are book 1 and 2 but more book 1 and maybe book 4 or 5.

The Toddler in book one is now a teen in the next book. Confusing YES!

Having never read this author before I can't say I am looking forward to reading anymore stories bu her.

Book Review: The Collector (The Bone Collector #2) by Fiona Cummins

The Collector (The Bone Collector, #2)
Title: The Collector (The Bone Collector #2)

Author:  Fiona Cummins

Stars: 3 Stars

Review:
I will be honest I wasn't a fan of the first book in the series I found the story telling basic as well as the characters very flat.
I decided to try Finoa Cummins one more and I have to say I like this book better.  The author created it as a stand  a lone story for readers just starting the series. The characters had a little more dept, the story was more detailed and had me excited to read.  The story is slow once again but it was used to create the world and the characters and less details that were useless.
The author uses different points of review that help readers understand the who why where when and how.
I think fans of the series Bones will find this series someone they cam sink there teeth into.

Book Review: Deadly Past by Kris Rafferty

deadly past
Title:  Deadly Past

Author: Kris Rafferty

Stars: 3 Stars

Review:
Deadly Past starts off with a bang but soon slows down to a snails pace as Cynthia is being pushed around by Charlie her best friend she kissed. the story again picks up its pace only to slow down once again giving readers a unfocused roller coaster ride that can't seem to figure out where it is going,
Readers will questions the female lead who is suppose to be all about the rules but starts to break them before the story gets off the ground.  With that in mind the story lacks focus and isn't true to the characters the author paints.  Trust me you will be reminded many times how Cynthia is a rules follower and how out of character this is for her throughout the story to the point readers will want to yell we get it she follows the rules but this one times she decides to break every single one of them.
With that in mind the story isn't able to keep readers focus as the two characters negative the world they have been thrown into.
The story has the romance readers who love romantic suspense stories. The story falls flat many times having readers struggle though what feels like repeated story line.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Lyrical Liaison for the advance copy of Kris Rafferty's  Deadly Past

I became obsessed with books young, and still retain an image in my mind of the first book I took out of the library. I completed my first short story during “rest period” in first grade, first novel at eighteen, first rejection at eighteen…it took me a long time to believe I could be a writer, and longer to convince anyone else. Meanwhile, I filled the time earning my BA at U/Mass Boston, married the love of my life (who is also the baby of his family), had three perfect children (that I could wax poetic about for days, and often do), and got my third degree black belt in Parker Kenpo Karate (a life-changing event that took over a decade of challenging my mind and body). I’m a staunch advocate for people empowering themselves, emotionally and physically, to be their best selves, to not rely on others to keep them safe in a world that is not safe. Review:
As someone who struggles to find sleep for whatever reason if I dream when I wake up tried or not I am excited.  I am in late 30s OKOK I am going to turn 40 in January.  I find it harder and hard not only to sleep but dream.  I have been told dreams are a way for your mind to process the events of the day.  It takes everything you see, heard, watch, talked about and more and tries to make since of it as you dream.  I wish I had started a dream journal when I was younger.
My sons tells me all the time if he is having a bad dream and can't wake up he takes control of his dream.  I ask for him to write them down all the time.

Alice Robb help readers realize that dreams are not just dreams or even understanding of ones day but it is a guide of ones mental health. Why We Dream is a blend of psychology and dream analysis.  Depending on your mind set this can change your life and make you a believer or you will talk away finding interesting topic but still sleep with or without dreams.
Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher Eamon Dolan/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for an advance copy of Alice Robb Why We Dream.

Synopsis:
While on a research trip in Peru, science journalist Alice Robb became hooked on lucid dreaming—the uncanny phenomenon in which a sleeping person can realize that they’re dreaming and even control the dreamed experience. Finding these forays both puzzling and exhilarating, Robb dug deeper into the science of dreams at an extremely opportune moment: just as researchers began to understand why dreams exist. They aren’t just random events; they have clear purposes. They help us learn and even overcome psychic trauma.

Robb draws on fresh and forgotten research, as well as her experience and that of other dream experts, to show why dreams are vital to our emotional and physical health. She explains how we can remember our dreams better—and why we should. She traces the intricate links between dreaming and creativity, and even offers advice on how we can relish the intense adventure of lucid dreaming for ourselves.

Why We Dream is a clear-eyed, cutting-edge examination of the meaning and purpose of our nightly visions and a guide to changing our dream lives—and making our waking lives richer, healthier, and happier.

The New Yorker says it’s “a spirited rebuke to the idea of sleep as a mere parting with consciousness… she is able to tread a careful and persuasive line between robust skepticism and open-mindedness…Part of the charm of Robb’s book lies in her willingness to journey beyond the bounds of what is scientifically verifiable—to embrace the strictly unrigorous ways in which humans attempt to extract meaning from their dream lives….In celebrating dreams as poetic artifacts, Robb offers a welcome antidote to the medicine administered by most sleep gurus. She is a more persuasive sleep saleswoman precisely because she does not champion slumber solely as a mental-health aid—an enhancer of acuity and efficiency, and so forth—but as an end in itself.”

Book Review: The Billionaire's Last Chance (The Beaumont Brothers, #3) by Leslie North

The Billionaire's Last Chance (The Beaumont Brothers, #3)
Title: The Billionaire's Last Chance (The Beaumont Brothers, #3)

Author:  Leslie North

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
Leslie North is a hit or miss for me.  I have read a lot of her different series and I can't say there is one I am in love with.  However sometimes within her series I find a gem I fall in love with.  Either the Characters, Story, or just her writing style.  This time it was the banter between the two lead characters was fun, moved with ease throughout the story and written perfectly.  Readers know the ending of the story before they get close to the end and yet the this story will keep readers hook.  Connall Beaumont, is a little to perfect but hey its a romance right.  Bernadette is the perfect blend of humor, femininity with her giggles and girl next door charm.  All in the background of a Billionaire who can have anything, anyone and be anywhere.

I usually avoid these stories because of how cheesy they tend to be.  Yet here I am singing the books praises.  Yes there is hot sex scenes but it flows into the story naturally.

This is a stand a lone or read as part of the series readers will not be left behind with what they choose.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Relay Publishing for a copy of Leslie North The Billionaire's Last Chance

Synopsis:
Connall Beaumont, CEO and COO of B3 Motors, needs a wife in less than two months or he will lose the business he and his brothers have spent years building. Connall never expected that the stunningly beautiful woman he met at a bar is the daughter of the lawyer who’s executing his grandfather’s will—a will Connall would do just about anything to get his hands on in order to save his company and the livelihoods of the people who work for him. If putting his hands on a beautiful woman will get him closer to that goal, then he’s game. Besides, there’s something about Bernadette Rowland that has him thinking she could be more than just a pawn in his grandfather’s game.

Bernadette wasn’t looking for a man, but when Connall inserted himself into her life, she didn’t put up much of a struggle. He’s sexy and smart and seems genuinely interested in her work as a wolf researcher. Bernadette can’t resist his charm and before long, she’s swept up into a world far away from the isolation and loneliness of the Montana wilderness. But just when she thinks she’s found someone who could be her mate for life, she discovers the real reason he’s been piling on the charm, and their perfect romance crumbles.

Can two people who are worlds apart find happiness together or are they each destined for life as a lone wolf?

Book Review: Mission: Impossible to Resist (Impossible Mission Romantic Suspense Series, #1) by Jacki Delecki

Mission: Impossible to Resist (Impossible Mission Romantic Suspense Series, #1)
Title:  Impossible to Resist (Impossible Mission Romantic Suspense Series, #1)

Author: Jacki Delecki

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
Impossible to Resist as a whole is a fast pace romantic suspense but it take a long time for the story to really take off.  The author repeats herself many times that can be frustrating for some readers while other will pass over the information and keep on reading as Jordan is about to be thrown into a world of the unknown and Aiden will do everything to protect her.
This is a great beginning to a series I can't wait to get my hands on.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Doe Bay Publishing LLC for a copy of Jacki Delecki Impossible to Resist

Synopsis:
She's beauty, brains, and trouble.

With Daddy's money, life could have been one continuous party for Seattle socialite Jordan Dean. Instead she chose college and a career. She doesn't have time for love or men--not with work and the responsibilities of raising her younger sister. But when her sister is kidnapped and a sexy Special Ops bodyguard is suddenly thrust into her life, Jordan must let go of her tightly controlled world and accept help from the one man who poses a huge risk to her well-guarded heart.

He's in the wrong place at the right time .

Delta Operator Aiden Foster was more than willing to do a favor for his buddy, but why did it have to be guarding a spoiled debutante? Aiden has zero interest in babysitting a rich girl for a week, but when he meets the reserved scientist, his opinion does an about-face. When Chinese terrorists kidnap Jordan's sister, it's assumed the girls' billionaire father will be asked for ransom. Instead, the kidnappers want something that could lead to an international disaster. Once Jordan and Aiden discover she's been betrayed by someone close to her, there's no one to trust but each other.

Time is already running out, but when Jordan is taken hostage too, Aiden is faced with near impossible odds. Can his beautiful woman use her brains to keep herself and her sister alive long enough for him find them?

Book Review Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson #2) by Darynda Jones

Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2)
Title: Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson #2)

Author: Darynda Jones

Stars: 4 Stars

Review:
I know it is never a good idea to pick up a book in a series and not start with book 1.  Well I did and the author is able to get readers up to date without taking up half the book to do it.
The story is full of one liners that at times takes away from the story but will have readers laughing out loud. The characters are very light for the topic and Charley Davidson will have readers following her not matter where she goes or what she does because the humor follow.

I can't wait to see what happens next in the series

Book Review: Beachcomber Investigations (Beachcomber Investigations #1) by Stephanie Queen

Title: Beachcomber Investigations (Beachcomber Investigations #1)

Author: Stephanie Queen

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
Beachcomber Investigation is a blend of sexual tension, mystery, mix of odd and fun characters that bring laughs, fun and story that readers will not want to put down.
Dane is ex special ops and Shana is an Aussie surfer chick and ex-Scotland Yard detective. The author is able to make the love hate relationship work without leaving readers rolling their eyes at some of the lines.  Instead readers will find they the characters are perfect blend of the classic TV PI shows.
I can't wait to pick up the next in the series.

Thank you to Netgelly for a copy of Stephanie Queen Beachcomber Investigations.

Synopsis:
A romantic detective series novel
Ex-special ops legend Dane Blaise is desperate to recruit Shana George away from Scotland Yard to partner with him in his new venture, Beachcomber Investigations. She has impressive skills and if he’s honest, he needs her to keep him grounded. But most of all, Dane wants to keep Shana on the island of Martha's Vineyard because he can't get past his insane longing for her.
Shana’s boss David Young forces her to decide on the spot when he assigns an important case to Beachcomber Investigations. She chooses to partner with Dane, going with her gut--or more accurately her heart--rather than her brains. They may be good partners in crime-fighting, but they are all wrong for each other in every other way possible. He's soulless and lost and likely has more wounds from his past than the bullet and knife scars scorching his body. But she's crazy. About him.
Their big assignment is to protect Dane's old special ops buddy, Acer. They need to find whoever paid a sniper to take a shot at Acer--before the sniper takes another shot and doesn't miss.
Dane and Shana need to be on top of their game to keep Acer alive, and not on top of each other. But each of them is secretly worried whether that’s possible--and worried about what will happen if it’s not.
