Book Review: Lucifer's Sin (Walker Security: Lucifer's Trilogy Book 1) by Lisa Renee Jones

Title: Lucifer's Sin (Walker Security: Lucifer's Trilogy Book 1)

Author Lisa Renee Jones

Stars: 3

Review:

I am undecided by this book.  The story starts off with a fast start and then stops.  Another running quickly though the story and then a stop as the 2 leads focuses on what lead to the current problem.

Readers will have to suspend their belief in what would normally happen in the real work as these characters seem to define all logic when it comes to police and FBI.

The secondary characters are full and enjoyable bringing the much-needed humor in the very dark story line.

The characters are bland, typical of romantic suspense series.  I was hoping for something a little ore from Lisa Renee Jones.  This isn't the best start to a new series.

In nutshell the story falls flat and the inner monologue was just to much at times.

Thank you for the advance copy of Lucifers Sin by Lisa Renee Jones.

Synposis:

Tall, dark, and deadly, these men run Walker Security. Each is unique in his methods and skills, but all share key similarities. They are passionate about those they love, relentless when fighting for a cause they believe in, and all believe that no case is too hard, no danger too dark. Dedication is what they deliver, results are their reward.

Meet Lucifer, one of those men...

A man with demons that run deep and dark...

The only woman who can bring him to his knees...

As one of the newest members of Walker Security, Lucifer lives up to his name. He’s a man with demons that run deep and dark. A man with secrets. A man betrayed by a woman, and that betrayal has shaped every part of his life moving forward.

He lives on the edge with fast cars, faster women, and some might say a death wish. That is until he crossed paths with Walker Security and one of their own pulled him from the bowels of his self-created hell.

But his own personal devil is about to show herself again. That woman from his past is back, and nothing is as it seems.

Lucifer's Trilogy is a Tall, Dark, and Deadly and Walker Security trilogy, but all three books can be read together without reading the previous series.

Book Review: Ancient Retribution (Ancients Rising #5) by Katie Reus

Title: Ancient Retribution (Ancients Rising #5)

Author: Katie Reus

Star: 3 1\2

Review:

I have read many of Katie Rues Romantic Suspense series and while many are the same story just a little added difference that readers find and enjoy.  All of her stories are HEA which readers seem to enjoy.  I have read just a few of Katie Reus supernatural romantic suspense series.  While I still have a hard time imagine what the different characters and at times their appearances the author gives readers what she is famous for strong female leads and the "Alpha male" that can't live without The One!

Each story in this series brings to life the important of family no matter happens in the past and future.

The story moves quickly, and this story is a stand-alone but I would recommended readers reading at least 1-4 in the series to get a better understand of the world the author has created. Yes lot and lots of steamy sexy time.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Ancient Retribution By Katie Reus.

Book Review: Rules for Engaging the Earl (The Widow Rules #2) By Janna MacGregor

Title: Rules for Engaging the Earl (The Widow Rules #2)

Author:  Janna MacGregor

Stars: 4

Review:

This engaging tale (no pun intended) covers the story of the second, and pregnant, of three ladies who found themselves married to the same Lord after his untimely death. She asks her first love to marry her to avoid the stigma of bastard being attached to the child. They had not seen each other in ten years as he had left to join the English Army fighting on the continent. He had previously returned but with a shattered leg from two sniper rounds. Will he keep his promise of ten years prior to always be there for her? This is a story of pain and self doubt. Will she be able to overcome his reluctance to re-enter society?
I found the story line to be both enjoyable and would suggest reading both stories in this series. I have rated this book 4 stars.
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.
Thank you, Frank, for your review.
I have previously reviewed the first book in the series and included that review below. I hope that if you read them they will provide you the same enjoyment I had when I read them.
A Duke In Time by Janna Macgregor

Imagine, if you will, being a recent window, whose marriage was not consummated, and finding out at the reading of the will that you are one of three wife's of the deceased. This knowledge is very hard to take in as one of the other two is very much pregnant. The deceased's older brother (a recently minted Duke) wishes to wash his hands of the whole matter as he considered his younger brother to be a scoundrel and a rake. Our heroine takes in the other two wifes and tries to avoid a scandal. Gradually the Duke begins to see the proverbial light and beauty of our heroine and nature starts to take it's natural course.

An enjoyable read which I would rate 4 stars.

Synopsis:

Constance Lysander needs a husband. Or, so society says. She’s about to give birth to her late husband’s child―a man who left her with zero money, and two other wives she didn’t know about. Thankfully, she has her Aunt by her side, and the two other wives have become close friends. But still―with a baby on the way, her shipping business to run, and an enemy skulking about, she has no time to find the perfect match.

Enter Jonathan, Earl of Sykeston. Returned war hero and Constance’s childhood best friend, his reentry into society has been harsh. Maligned for an injury he received in the line of duty, Jonathan prefers to stay out of sight. It’s the only way to keep his heart from completely crumbling. But when a missive from Constance requests his presence―to their marriage ceremony―Jonathan is on board. His feelings for Constance run deep, and he’ll do anything to make her happy, though it means risking his already bruised heart.

With Constance, Jonathan, and the new baby all together, it’s clear the wounds―both on the surface and in their relationship―run deep. But when the nights come, their wounds begin to heal, and both come to realize that their marriage of convenience is so much more than just a bargain.

Book Review: Bounty Collected (Solstice Huntress #1) by Lindsey Devin

Title: Bounty Collected (Solstice Huntress #1)

Author: Lindsey Devin

Stars: 3

Review:

Dipping my little toes into paranormal romance again in hopes of finding something a little different. Well Bounty Collected isn't very different any most of the stories. The female lead is trying to hide who she really is the most powerful or the most rare supernatural l person.  She finds herself attracted to the one person who can destroy her because of his connections to the supernatural world and yet they feel a need to be open and honest with each other.

The story moves quickly and at times I will admit I was a little lost with the supernatural world the authors created and it almost felt like I needed a background in all things Fae even with the female lead being half human and half Fae.  The story moves smoothly and has moment of Will they or Wont they. As they try and stop a killer and find a missing woman.

I found this book on kindle Unlimited.

Synopsis:

I’m a bounty hunter with a secret advantage...

I’m the bounty hunter you call when you want the job done. But what people don’t know is that I’m a rare half-fae with the sort of powers the Unseelie will kill for.

That’s why I let everyone think I’m human and I always work alone. Until now. Corbin Frost has been assigned to my latest case, and working with the Unseelie Enforcer—especially one who is a hybrid fae demon—isn’t going to be easy.

He’s here because there are Fae markings on the dead body. The woman I’m tracking swears she’s innocent of her husband’s murder. She also claims to be human, but the evidence suggests otherwise.

Basically, Corbin is my worst nightmare, and I can’t risk him finding out my true identity. It’s such a shame he’s so damn tempting.

About The Author:

Whether it be an amazing heroine kicking butt or making a deal with a billionaire vampire, this team loves to talk and write about everything paranormal / fantasy! Title: Renegade (Anonymous Justice #1)

Author: Nancy Allen

Stars: 4

Review:

This is the first book that I have personally read by Nancy Allen.  The author created a move believable set of characters who are able to work outside the law to right the wrongs of justice. The story flows well as the author create characters with backstories that will bring the story to life. The story has predictable moments that readers will be able to move past as the story is intriguing enough to look past the obvious moments.

Book Review: The Recovery Agent ( Gabriela Rose Series) by Janet Evanovich

Title: The Recovery Agent (Gabriela Rose Series)

Author: Janet Evanovich

Stars: 4

Review:

If you have read any of Janet Evanovich you will see the author using her very traditional story telling style that she hasn't broken away from. That being said the story is face pace, fun and an adventure readers will be excited for in the next book in the series.

Gabriela Rose is a fun character that readers will enjoy and excited to get to know more about her life as the stories goes forward. The relationship between the two ex's is fun, laughable moments and fighting lots of fighting.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Janet Evanovich The Recovery Agent.

Book Review: Evil In Emerald (A Harriett Gordon Mystery) by A.M. Stuart

Title: Evil In Emerald (A Harriett Gordon Mystery)

Author: A.M. Stuart

Stars: 4

Review:

A period piece that will take the reader back to the early twentieth century and into exotic Singapore. This is a time when the fabled  British Empire was alive and thriving. There were the British, other wester people, and natives. So for the reader to fully understand they must be of that mindset and not judge actions by current social standards. A murder has been committed in the British social set and so an investigation begins. This will be followed by two other murders, insurance fraud, a vicious assault and information about the kidnapping of a previously unknown sister of the investigating Police Inspector. While the murders and insurance fraud are solved the kidnapping is not but the framework, and characters are excellently built for a follow up novel.

If you are a fan of period mysteries, which appear to accurately portray existing social conditions, you will enjoy this book. I have rated it 4 stars.
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Book Review: The Bitter Fruit Beneath by Julie Evans

Title:  The Bitter Fruit Beneath

Author: Julie Evans

Star: 4

Review:

A British crime novel but told from the viewpoint of the duly engaged solicitor for the accused. A newborn baby is found dead and the cause of death is found to be smothered owing to having been buried while still alive. The accused mother disavows all knowledge of the deed and birth. Numerous red herrings are found before the truth comes forth. A truly delightful read for the amateur, or in my case not so amateur, detective.

I have rated this book 4 stars and recommend it to all armchair amateur detectives.

I obtained this book in Kindle ebook format from Amazon. This is my unbiased review. I have not and will not receive any form of payment for same.

Thank you, Frank, for your reviews

Synopsis:

Burnt out and disillusioned following a messy divorce and a career defending the very worst type of criminal, Eden Gray escapes the city and moves back home to her beloved Cornwall to start her own law firm. Though money is tight, she begins to think life is sorted until she is railroaded into defending teenage surrogate, Rowan Lutey, charged with the manslaughter of a baby found buried in a ‘witch pit’; one of a number of ancient pits filled with fertility offerings discovered by archaeologists at a site close to the Lutey farm.

With the discovery of the baby, the family is plunged into a shadowy past full of secrets and face personal attacks fueled by fear and superstition as the baby's discovery sparks a media frenzy.

Abandoned as an infant, Eden’s feelings about her birth mother are unleashed as the site’s shadowy history is revealed.

As she risks her life to unravel the mystery and protect others from a manipulative and deranged killer, she discovers the truth about her client, her own abandonment and an inner strength she never imagined she possessed.

About The Author:

After training as a lawyer, Julie returned to her native Cornwall to establish her own law firm and to raise her three children. After years building a successful legal practice it was time for a new adventure and she decided to write the stories she had formulated in her head over the years about her community and the lives of those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

‘I have always been fascinated by the schizophrenic character of the windswept Cornish peninsula my family has been lucky enough to call home for generations. Occupied by a cast of reluctant bedfellows, city-slick escapees and us locals who carry the remnants of our myth-ridden history etched on our backs like tattoos, it teeters between the bucket and spade domesticity of modern-day tourism and a superstitious past, riddled with Pagan traditions.

The resultant clash of cultures and sensibilities causes friction, resentment and drama. My aim, through my writing, is to explore what happens when these divergent worlds collide to expose a darker reality at odds with the picture-perfect landscape. Whilst I was lucky to enjoy a fantastically satisfying career as a lawyer I cannot now imagine anything more joyous than being able to sit at my desk and write knowing others might read and connect with my words. Cornwall has captured the hearts and imaginations of countless wonderful writers through the decades; their vivid images now woven into its rich tapestry. If I can add one colourful stitch I will be happy.’
