Book Review: Beyond Danger (Texas Trilogy #2) by Kat Martin

Beyond Danger (The Texas Trilogy)
Title: Beyond Danger (Texas Trilogy #2)

Author: Kat Martin

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
Kat Martin has the ability to draw a vivid picture that readers will feel as if they are in the story. Beyond Danger is a well crafted romance story that will keep readers glued to the pages. The author has the ability to keep a steady pace as the story moves forward as she fills in the details of the people and the world she created.  The romance is front and center with the suspense taking a back to seat many times.

Synopsis:
Texas mogul Beau Reese is furious. All six feet three obscenely wealthy, good-looking inches of him. His sixty-year-old father, Stewart, a former state senator no less, has impregnated a teenager. Barely able to contain his anger, Beau is in for another surprise. It appears that Stewart has moved an entirely different woman into the house . . .

Beau assumes that stunning Cassidy Jones is his father’s mistress. At least she’s of age. But those concerns take a sudden backseat when he finds Stewart in a pool of blood on the floor of his study—and Cassidy walks in to find Beau with his hand on the murder weapon.

The shocks just keep coming. Someone was following Stewart, and Cassidy is the detective hired to find out who and why. Now she’ll have to find his killer instead. Her gut tells her it wasn’t Beau. And Beau’s instincts tell him it wasn’t Cassidy. Determined to track down the truth, they form an uneasy alliance—one that will bring them closer to each other—closer to danger and beyond

Book Review: Dangerous Witness (Redemption Harbor #3) by Katie Reus

Dangerous Witness by Katie Reus

Title: Dangerous Witness (Redemption Harbor #3)

Author: Katie Reus

Stars: 4 out of 5

Review:
Dangerous Witness is a second chance romance. The story is what you read is what you get.
Katie Reus books kind of go one way or the other for me. This book while I loved that Darcy and Brooks were up front with everything it just feel short in areas.
The pacing of the story isn't quite right but I can't put my finger on it.
The secondary characters which have already been introduced are back and fun to catch on up. The relationship between Brooks and his father is a nice twist so it isn't all 100%romance with a little suspense.
Reader of Katie Reus will love this addition and I will admit while it wasn't perfect I found myself loving the story.

Thank you Netgalley and the Katie Reus for the advance copy

Title: The Burial Society

Author: Nina Sadowsky

Stars: 4 Stars

Review:
The Burial Society is a page turner that will keep readers hooked with its fast pace story. Readers will enjoy the short chapters but might get lost with all the different points of view that change between chapters.
The characters jump off the page and the concept of having a Witness Protection in London to help those who are in abusive relationship find a way out was interesting. The writing is sharp it balance between a easy spy thriller and a romantic suspense.

Book Review Pandora: Outbreak (A Pandora Thriller #1) by Eric L. Harry

Pandora by Eric L. Harry
Title: Outbreak (A Pandora Thriller #1)

Author: Eric L. Harry

Stars: 3 Stars

Review:
I was really excited to read this book it sound fascinating. Diving right in I found it more depressing than most apocalyptic fiction or  pandemic sub-genre books that I have read in the past.
The characters might be likable for some but this reader struggled to connect with anyone of them. The misogynistic undertones that always seem to fall into this genre was too much as was the repetitive words that were used. A good editor could have fixed those quickly.
The series I am sure will have an upswing at the books move forward.

An engaging modern day love story/comedy that I found absolutely delightful. The female main character along with two friends have netted $69 million each after winning the lottery. Her tricks only make her more desirable to her boss who had become aware she wants to be fired but not the reason why.

I obtained a ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Title: Watch Me

Author: Jody Gehrman

Stars: 3 1/2 stars

Review:
Readers are giving two Points Of View or (POV) Sam man who is 22 and Kate 38.
Sam is a talented student of Kate who is a crime writer. Readers who enjoy or love psychological thrillers won't be disappointed with this story. Sam is Creepy and his ideas and the way his mind works will chill readers bones.   The beginning of the story start off with readers needing more and picks up half way though the book.  Sam is Creepy and will keep readers up at night.

This is one book I would keep the lights on while I read it at night.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin Press for the advance copy.

Synopsis:
Kate Youngblood is disappearing. Muddling through her late 30s as a creative writing professor at Blackwood college, she’s dangerously close to never being noticed again. The follow-up novel to her successful debut tanked. Her husband left her for a woman ten years younger. She’s always been bright, beautiful, independent and a little wild, but now her glow is starting to vanish. She’s heading into an age where her eyes are less blue, her charm worn out, and soon no one will ever truly look at her, want to know her, again.

Except one.

Sam Grist is Kate’s most promising student. An unflinching writer with razor-sharp clarity who gravitates towards dark themes and twisted plots, his raw talent is something Kate wants to nurture into literary success. But he’s not there solely to be the best writer. He’s been watching her. Wanting her. Working his way to her for years.

As Sam slowly makes his way into Kate’s life, they enter a deadly web of dangerous lies and forbidden desire. But how far will his fixation go? And how far will she allow it?

Book Review Her Devoted HERO (Black Dawn, #2) by Caitlyn O'Leary

Her Devoted HERO by Caitlyn O'Leary
Title: Her Devoted HERO (Black Dawn, #2)

Author: Caitlyn O'Leary

Stars: 4 out of 5

Review:
I was a little surprised by this book. I honestly thought it would be typical simple writing nothing standing out. This book had a lot more heart and soul than I expected. I found myself laughing so many times from the banter to the emails they wrote. Could be because if I was writing an email from a dating site mine would sound pretty much the same. I think readers of Military Romance stories will enjoy this series. The writing is simple but the story will pull romance readers in and make them laugh.
Caitlyn O'Leary created very likable characters that readers will cheer for.

BULLETS (Jon "Big Slick" Elder Book 1)
Title: BULLETS (Jon "Big Slick" Elder Book 1)

Author: Elijah Drive

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
A well written and action packed adventure set in a small town in Arizona. The action starts in the first chapter and only builds to the finale. I liked the story very much and it has a strong main character. I did not particularly care for the racist and the anti-police overtones which prevailed through out the book. If you have a distain for foul language this may not be the book for you.

I have given this book 4 stars.

I obtained this book from Amazon in Kindle format.
Thank you Frank for your review:

Synopsis:
Professional poker player Jon "Big Slick" Elder was minding his own business in a diner when an Arizona sheriff walked in and killed the man sitting next to him, a Mexican day laborer accused of murder. The law officer then arrested Slick simply because the sheriff didn't like the color of Slick's skin.

Slick knew that the stranger who had been sitting next to him at the diner was no murderer because, in addition to cards, Slick also kills people for money. The poor man didn't have the look, but Slick does, and with the help of a Latina assistant district attorney, a Navajo state trooper and a homegrown federal agent, Slick sets out to prove the dead man's innocence. What he discovers, as he digs deeper, is a deadly mystery that threatens not only him, but his newfound friends as well. But Slick hates to have anyone… ANYONE… toss him his shoes and tell him to get out of town.

Book Review: A Treacherous Curse (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery #3) by Deanna Raybourn

A Treacherous Curse (Veronica Speedwell, #3)
Title:  Treacherous Curse (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery #3)

Author: Deanna Raybourn

Stars: 4.25 out of 5 stars

Review:
An engaging light mystery novel that kept my attention from the first paragraph to the last paragraph. The main character is the officially unrecognized daughter of the Prince of Wales. However, she is known to a select few of the inner circle who provide her with timely advise from time to time. She is blunt in her ways and does not hesitate when action is required. In some aspects she reminds me of Amelia Peabody, the character so well developed, by the author Elizabeth Peters. I look forward to seeing the series develop.

I have rated this book 4.5 stars.

I received an ARC obtained from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Book Review Deadly Deception (Rogue Security #2) by Marissa Garner

Deadly Deception by Marissa Garner
Title: Deadly Deception (Rogue Security #2

Author: by Marissa Garner

Stars: 3 1/2 stars

Review:
Deadly Deception plot was all over the place to the point readers might wonder what the point of the story is. Marissa Garner has the ability to write a well crafted story but gets loss in the details. Murder, Child Pornography, family lies, kidnapping, second chance romance, secrets and that is just a few themes that float in and out of the story.  Having read others by this author I know she is able to create a story but she throw everything into them and you almost wonder if the kitchen sink might make an appearance.
Deadly Deception needs more focus and less stories to have been a 5 star reading.

Worth of a Lady (The Marriage Maker Book 1)

Title: Worth of a Lady (The Marriage Maker #1)

Author:(s) Tarah Scott, Sue-Ellen Welfonder AKA Allie Mackay

Stars: 4 stars out of 5

Review:
An intriguing story that grabbed my interest very early. It was told very well. However, I thought the storyline was to be about the oldest sister and was very much surprised when the story finished after the youngest sister married. I can only presume that the story is to continue through all four sister's marriages. I would have liked for the entire tale to have been in one volume.

With the above being said I have rated this book 4 stars.

A former flight attendant of Scottish descent, she spent fifteen years living in Europe and still makes annual visits to Scotland. Most inspired by the wild places of Scotland’s far north, she is also fascinated by the paranormal, Scottish folklore and Highland tradition. In addition to her great love of Scotland, her other main interests are medieval history, hill walking, and dogs. Proud of her own Scottish ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies: The MacFie Clan Society and the Clan MacAlpine Society. She currently resides in Florida with her husband, Manfred, and her Jack Russell Terrier, Em. Allergic to flash and brass, she enjoys living quietly and spends her time writing her books and counting the minutes until she can board that next Glasgow-bound plane.
Sue-Ellen Welfonder
Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a card-carrying Scotophile whose burning wish to make frequent (free) trips to the land of her dreams led her to a twenty year career with the airlines. Bi-lingual, she flew international all those years, working her flights as foreign language speaker. Her flying career allowed her to see the world, but it was always to Scotland that she returned.

Now a full-time writer, she’s quick to admit that she much prefers wielding a pen to pushing tea and coffee. She spent fifteen years living in Europe and used that time to explore as many castle ruins, medieval abbeys, and stone circles as possible. Anything ancient, crumbling, or lichened caught her eye. She makes annual visits to Scotland, insisting they are a necessity as each trip gives her inspiration for new books.

Proud of her own Hebridean ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies: the MacFie Clan Society and the Clan MacAlpine Society. In addition to Scotland, her greatest passions are medieval history, the paranormal, and dogs. She never watches television, loves haggis, and writes at a four-hundred-and-fifty year old desk that once stood in a Bavarian castle.

Sue-Ellen is married and currently resides with her husband and Jack Russell Terrier in Florida. Readers can learn more about her and the world of her books at: www.welfonder.com.

Book Review: The Duke of Nothing (The 1797 Club #5) by Jess Michaels

The Duke of Nothing (The 1797 Club, #5)
Title: The Duke of Nothing (The 1797 Club #5

Author: Jess Michaels

Stars: 4 stars out of 5

Review:
A well told story that has all the right ingredients that one looks for in a historical romance. A Duke who must find a bride, but not just any bride will be acceptable. She must come with an extremely large dowry as his late father had been a gambler and lost the family fortune. In addition there were large outstanding vowels held by persons unknown. At a party he briefly meets (big gasp) a colonial with whom he feels a strong attraction. Unfortunately, the lady in question is only a penniless companion to the heiress with the huge dowry. The reader must root for the underdog and see if true love will conquer greed.

I have given this book a four star rating and would recommend it to anyone seeking a historical romance to read.

I received this ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Synopsis:
