Title: Not This Time
Author: Vicki Hinze
Review: I hadn’t read the two leading up to this book and so I was a bit lost in the beginning. The characters have known each other awhile and so I felt like the new guy on the block trying to break into a group of really close friends. Eventually I figured out what was going on and I was able to enjoy the story without wondering who was talking and what they had to do with the plot. I will tell you that I liked the book well enough that if I ever have the time I will go back and read the others in order.
The story started out strong and then back peddled for a bit before getting going again. This book is not overly religious, the characters talk to God and talk about him throughout the story. I didn’t find this strange or something that took away from the plot. I found it refreshing in the fact that the characters realized they couldn’t do everything they needed to do alone. Pray is a wonderful thing that allows us to have someone else shoulder part of our burden.
The mystery was interesting, but without the background of the other books I still felt lost at times. The ending was a predictable and so that was a disappointment. But I liked the characters and will be interested in reading their next adventure together.
