Book Review: Finn (Anderson Billionaires #1) by Melody Anne

Finn (Anderson Billionaires, #1)
Title : Finn (Anderson Billionaires #1)

Author: Melody Anne

Stars: 3 1\2

Review:
I have read a few in the Anderson series by Melody Anne and while each one is about a different person they all seem to follow the same pattern. Boy meets girl, girl or boy falls head over heels while the isn't sure this is what they want.Finn story is a introduction to a new set of Anderson and their meddling uncles. The story has it moments and can be entertaining at time it falls flat for this review with its lack of honest dynamics that is need between Finn and Brooke.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy Melody Anne Finn.

Synopsis:
Finn Anderson is a loyal military veteran who has no desire to live a life of luxury and ease, but sometimes a person doesn’t get a choice. His life is flipped upside down when he and his four brothers learn they’re long-lost relatives of the absurdly famous and wealthy Joseph Anderson. The eccentric but generous billionaire puts the brothers to work building a new veterans center, and that’s not all: Joseph won’t stop until each nephew finds love.
Finn has never expected or wanted an easy life, and he struggles with his early retirement from the elite SEAL team. But when a very confident Brooke Garrison literally sweeps him off his feet during a self-defense class he’s teaching, he thinks less about his past and more about a brand-new future.
If Finn knows anything for certain, it’s that he can’t let this woman get away. Though Brooke is tough and compassionate, the loss of her brother has left her vulnerable. She isn’t sure she can risk loving and losing another person in her life, including a very determined ex-SEAL. Can the two of them look beyond their past wounds and embrace what they’re feeling?

King Of Hearts
Title: King Of Hearts

Author: C.A. Szarek

Stars: 4

Review:
Never judge a book by its cover.  While the cover is a little cheesy and the synopsis made me curious.  Have read books my C.A. Szarek they were good but sometimes lack a balance between story, characters history and action.  The author has shown growth in her writing and ability to create a well rounded romantic suspense story that will have reading wanting....No needing more by her.
The story has a wealth of characters that will have readers following ever string the authors hands to them.

Book Review: Silent Evidence (Evidence #8) by Rachel Grant

Silent Evidence (Evidence, #8)
Title: Silent Evidence (Evidence #8)

Author:  Rachel Grant

Stars: 4 1\2 stars

Review:
4 1\2 stars out of 5
I found Rachel Grant a few years ago and found myself unable to walk past her books without buying my own copy.  Her characters are smart, strong, and a little over the top romance.
The men fall in love hard and fast with the women.  Silent Evidence is a mix of romance, reminder what PTSD does to a person and how hard it is to recover without help.
The book isn't really a stand alone as it bring out characters from other books that readers of the series loves.  Not to mention things that happened in book 4 are bought up once again.
The author tries to keep readers updated but those starting would feel lost

The romance is traditional Rachel Grant with things happening in odd places.  The author covers topics that are current social events.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of Rachel Grant Silent Evidence.

Book Review: Claiming Sarah (Ace Security #5) by Susan Stoker

Claiming Sarah (Ace Security #5)
Title: Claiming Sarah (Ace Security #5)

Author: Susan Stoker

Stars: 3 1\2  stars

Review:
Wham Bam Thank you Ma'am romance with characters who fall in love with just one look and fight for what they want a wife and baby.
Cole will be remembered by the those who read her other books in the Ace security series.  He is finally getting his romance, mystery woman whom he can save and a little extra in the end.
The story works as because it has built in audience but if this was book one in a new series it would fall flat and leave readers board.  Once the romance starts the side story falls away and it becomes the same tings Sarah who is worried things are moving to quickly and Cole who wants to marry and impregnate her right away.
The author uses the current themes of life with Sarah having been adopted by to gay men who die in a tragic event.
Everything felt thrown together with and lacked any real focus.

Title: Say It Again (First Wives #5)

Having read the first and now the last in the series I have to say the author has the ability to write stories that are strong romances and a balance of romance, action packed story with fast paced motion that will have readers up late into the night needing to find out what happens to the characters they are rooting for.
The characters are interesting, the author has the ability to take heart breaking stories and turn them into hero people can root for.
The character development move quickly their are a lot of characters but the author keeps the story moving forward keeping readers from getting lost
The story can be read as a stand alone without readers getting lost. Action pack, romance, steamy romance, guns, knives and friends that will always be there for each other.

Title:  Fallen (Deep Ops #2)

Author: Rebecca Zanetti

Stars: 5

Review:
This can be read as a stand alone novel but it will take time for readers to full understand what the HHD is.

Author Rebecca Zanetti  has the ability to mix suspense, romance, humor and characters who are flawed that readers will fall head over in heels in love with.  The characters are over the top entertaining and will have readers wanting and needing more from this author and the series.

Too close. To clear her father’s name, Brigid needs Raider’s help. The Unit’s idea that she bring a straight-laced Fed in as her “fiancé” won’t fly, though—not unless Raider can release his inner bad boy and become the rebel Brigid can’t resist

About The Author:

Rebecca Zanetti wrote her first story when she was six – a romance between a princess and neighboring prince.  The princess fell out of her castle and the prince rescued her. A happily ever after was had by all.
This theme of romance has been carried through Rebecca’s works until present time.  While today’s heroine may have a medical degree, black belt in Karate and her own 401K, she’s still after that happy ending.  And today’s prince may have fangs and wear a black hat, but hey, a modern princess likes a guy who bites.
Rebecca attended Pepperdine University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a Political Science emphasis.  While there she worked as the Editor-in-Chief of The Graphic newspaper, a member of the Pi Phi Sorority and an intern for President Reagan, who still gave 3-5 speeches a week, even though he was no longer president.
After college, Rebecca worked as an art curator and a Senate aide before heading to law school, where she received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho.  She married Tony Zanetti in the middle of her second year of law school and became pregnant with their first child during the third year.  She graduated law school, gave birth three weeks later, and took the Bar Exam three weeks after that.  All she remembers about the bar exam is that it was so quiet in the testing room, she thought about taking a quick nap.  But she continued on, passed the bar and became a lawyer.   She worked for a large firm, then a small firm, then the county while also teaching legal classes at her local community college.  Now she writes  romances about vampires, cowboys, and soldiers.
Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories.  She resides there with her husband, children and extended family who inspire her every day.  Rebecca has completed several manuscripts, winning award throughout the writing industry for her work.  She is currently writes the Scorpius Syndrome series and the Realm Enforcer series (a Dark Protector spinoff) for Kensington Publishing, and the Sin Brothers series  and the Lost Bastard Series for Grand Central Publishing.

Cold Conspiracy (Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery: Winter Storm Wedding #3)
Title:  Cold Conspiracy

Review:
Cold Conspiracy  lacks any type of well conspiracy.  It lacks focus and honestly reads like a life time TV show.  It lacks connection back ground for who what where when and why ther characters do what they are doing.  Villains are easy to figure out and lack any focus.  Their killing make little since and focus.

Book Review: Undercover (London Phoenix Book 2) by Rebecca Crowley

Undercover (London Phoenix Book 2) by [Crowley, Rebecca ]
Title: Undercover (London Phoenix Book 2)

Author: Rebecca Crowley

Stars: 3 1\2

Review:
The story starts out interesting enough soon romance aka sexy aka steamy time takes over the story to the point readers might even get lost in the reason Asher and Ada are together.  Readers will get reminded many times over how beautiful Ada is to the point of an eye roll.
The story plays out like all romance novels that focuses on the sexual relationship only Ada plays more of the male role and Asher plays the more typical female role. (Just using it as a generalization and not what I think.)
The story falls flat many times as the romance seems to be the focal point of the story.  As a readers I perfer to have more of a blend between story and romance.  Undercover is 90% sex, thinking of sex and wanting sex.  While 10% of the story is Asher finding his path in life.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Rebecca Crowley Undercover.

Synopsis:
After almost ten years dodging bullets as a foreign correspondent, Asher Brody is struggling to find his place back in the U.K. – and in his family-run newspaper, the London Phoenix. He’s intent on proving he’s as committed as his brothers, even if it means putting on a suit and posh accent to investigate a high-ranking executive at an upscale retreat.

Ada Hunter wasted years trailing her ex-boyfriend, only for him to turn his back when her documentary career finally took off. Now she’s beating her own path, and it’s taking her all over the world. To secure funding for her next project, she takes a risky job with the Phoenix posing as broody-sexy Asher’s fake girlfriend – too good to be true.

They plan to spend a few days pretending to be a couple at a country estate before going their separate ways. But when bad weather strands them in the countryside, temptation develops into something more and the line between fantasy and reality becomes dangerously blurred.

Book Review: What Rose Forgot by Nevada Barr

What Rose Forgot
Title: What Rose Forgot

Author: Nevada Barr

Stars: 5

Review:
I have been a long time fan of this author. When the opportunity arose to read and review her latest book I jumped at the chance and hoped I would not be disappointed. Well I was not disappointed Ms Barr still has the ability to catch my attention early and keep me enthralled to the final page. The story line centers around a rich elderly female who has found herself drugged and being held in a secure memory care facility. Fearing for her life she manages to escape not once but twice. In the process she discovers who the villains are and exposes their deadly misdeeds with the help of her young teen granddaughter and others. There are several well laid red herrings to mislead the reader so careful attention is required of the reader.

I have rated this book the maximum of 5 stars.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.
Thank you Frank for your review.

Synopsis:
Rose Dennis wakes up in a hospital gown, her brain in a fog, only to discover that she's been committed to an Alzheimer's Unit in a nursing home. With no memory of how she ended up in this position, Rose is sure that something is very wrong. When she overhears one of the administrators saying about her that she's "not making it through the week," Rose is convinced that if she's to survive, she has to get out of the nursing home. She avoids taking her medication, putting on a show for the aides, then stages her escape.
The only problem is—how does she convince anyone that she's not actually demented? Her relatives were the ones to commit her, all the legal papers were drawn up, the authorities are on the side of the nursing home, and even she isn't sure she sounds completely sane. But any lingering doubt Rose herself might have had is erased when a would-be killer shows up in her house in the middle of the night. Now Rose knows that someone is determined to get rid of her.
With the help of her computer hacker/recluse sister Marion, thirteen-year old granddaughter Mel, and Mel's friend Royal, Rose begins to gather her strength and fight back—to find out who is after her and take back control of her own life. But someone out there is still determined to kill Rose, and they're holding all the cards.

Book Review: How to Love a Duke in Ten Days (Devil You Know #1) by Kerrigan Byrne

How to Love a Duke in Ten Days (Devil You Know, #1)
Title: How to Love a Duke in Ten Days (Devil You Know #1)

Author: Kerrigan Byrne

Stars: 4

Review:
A love story that starts in 1880 and ends in approximately 1892. Three school girls are finishing up a school year, in France, when their mischievous behavior entails their unofficial leader being called to the headmaster's office to answer for their misdemeanors. The punishment gets out of hand and she is raped by the headmaster. While defending herself she kills the man. All three, plus a trusted gardener, then conceal the body and crime. Move forward 10 years and we find the young lady being blackmailed, broke and single, while attending a party to celebrate the upcoming engagement of one of her school friends. Subsequent events lead to her being the bride and the blackmailer being exposed and dealt with along with other miscreants. All in all a good story line but if I had to sum it up in five words it would be sex, sex, and more sex.

I have rated this book 4 stars.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased opinion.
Thank you Frank for the Review.

Review:
My kids loves Sean Connolly  The Book of Totally Irresponsible Science book and did many of the experiments in the book.  As a family during the summer we tried to do a lot of projects to keep their minds busy.  This book I was hoping would be the same.  I falls a little flat compared to the science book.  It was more about how technology can be good and how it can go wrong but didn't really work as well as the other book he has written.  One of my kids though it was boring and would rather work on a coding site.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher  Workman Publishing Company for the advance copy of Sean Connolly The book of Terrifyingly Awesome Technology.

Synopsis:
Sean Connolly’s bestselling “genius at work” series gets it’s “T!” STEM, standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, refers to the core non-humanities subjects that are so critical to contemporary education. And now, after covering everything but the technology, this master of fun, messy, possibly risky and compelling interactive science experiments explores twenty-seven key areas in current and near-future tech.

Author of The Book of Totally Irresponsible Science, The Book of Massively Epic Engineering Disasters, and, most recently, The Book of Ingeniously Daring Chemistry Sean Connolly delves into the fascinating and potentially scary world of driverless cars, artificial intelligence, robots and androids, smart clothing, the “internet of things,” test-tube meat, the space elevator, and more. Through cool illustrations, quick definitions, illustrated panels, and Connolly's clear and always-lively writing, readers learn what each breakthrough means; how it has or will improve our lives; what other technologies are related to it; and what the terrifyingly awesome potential risks are. (3D printing? What happens when someone bad “prints” a weapon?) And to make the learning hands-on, each chapter includes an experiment to help understand the underlying principles of these incredibly complicated developments: Use milk jugs and balloons to test solar power. Food dye and water to understand genome technology. A paper airplane to gain insight into drones. Two boards and two friends to replicate the force of a powered exoskeleton. It’s science, down to a T.

Book Review: Dark Memento (Verona Bay #1) by Katie Reus

Dark Memento (Verona Bay, #1)
Title: Dark Memento (Verona Bay #1)

Author: Katie Reus

Stars: 5

Review:
Having read many of Katie Reus series I have to admit this might just be one I have to have all of her books.  Its starts off as most of her books a woman in need of help.  Only this time Serenity is a mom who has her head on her shoulders and wants to give her daughter the life she had before she was taken.  As a single mom she focus on her daughters and those who are able to keep her safe.  Of course that includes Lucas Jordan and his family.
The romance is sweet, the mystery is dark and no one will be able to put the book down.  Even tough it is pretty easy to figure out who is tormenting her and yet readers will not be able to stop reading.
Katie Rues once again is able to bring to life a city people will want to visit, people who readers will want to get to know in life and a romance that is sweet, hot and steamy.

Book Review: Wylde Fire (100 Proof #1) by Sarah Robinson

 Wylde Fire (100 Proof, #1)100
Title: Wylde Fire (100 Proof #1)

Author: Sarah Robinson

Stars: 3

Review:
Sarah Robinson starts a new series that is more sex filled than story filled.  Everything  Sam getting what he wants and rubbing it in his the face of everyone who knows him.  The story really has zero purpose.  If a romance like this happened in the real life it wouldn't last a week.  Sam the make lead is needy and lacks confidence it takes for a person to run a successful business.  Holly is smart and falls in love with her high school crush but really they are only lusting after each other.
When things fall apart it feels forced and doesn't make since once again.
The story is nothing more than sex, lust and nothing much else. Example: Introduction, deals, sex, meet family, sex, background, sex, meet family, sex, party, sex, guy screws up, heart breaking moment, make up sex, and the books ends.
The writing is fine, the characters have enough back ground to keep some readers interested and that is why the story gets 3 instead of a 2 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Sarah Robinson Wylde Fire.
