The Flu Its Here!!!

Image result for The Flu In AZ

Like most parents Christmas is a time of stress, joy, crazy, fun and much more.  This year it was perfect Number 2 had a cough but the flu seemed to leave her unharmed.  Christmas Night Number 3 was found laying on a couch watching TV while everyone else was running around. This mommy knew something was wrong took her temp 102.7. Home we went while everyone else went to see the beautiful LDS Mesa AZ Temple Light Display. The following day I noticed number 4 was slowing down in fact he was laying on the couch and hardly talking. Pulled out my much used Christmas present from my mother 4 years ago. Yup he was running a temp 102.1. Number 4 looked at me and whispered your turn. I checked my temp expecting the same number 98.3 but found out the reason I had been run down and walking up and down the stairs was taking away my energy I was running a low grade temp of 100.9. Before I knew it I was holding my personal oven and sleeping on the couch. I was up all night as he coughing, threw up mucas and so much more.
If I wasn't holding him he demanded to hold my hand. As  I rubbed the small finger of number 4 who is 4 year old. I started to think about how I was considering going back to work once he was in kindergarten. I held that hand realizing someone else would be holding his little hand when he is sick. I knew that stay at home while it drives me nutty some weeks is where I belong. Right Here. Right Now this is where I belong at home with sick kids who only want to hold my hand.

Now here's hoping for a quite night and some much needed sleep. 2 hours a night isn't enough for this sick momma.

Hoping for a healthier New Year and with this Note I am sorry if Reviews are not getting posted I haven't been able to do much but close my eyes. Reading makes my eyes hurt and headaches start.  Normally reading helps get rid of headaches but right now they are the trigger.

A Reluctant Hero by [McGivney, V K]
Title: A Reluctant Hero

Author: V.K. McGivney

Stars: 4 stars out of 5

Review:
If you understand and enjoy subtle British humor this is a great book. It is full of wry and understated light comedic wit. I was amused from beginning to end. The main character is a beaten down individual, who despite the situations he is thrown into, finally manages to come out at the top of the heap.

I have given this book a 4 star rating.

I obtained this book from Amazon in Kindle format.

Book Review: Silent Threat (Mission Recovery #1) by Dana Marton

Silent Threat (Mission Recovery #1)
Title: Silent Threat (Mission Recovery #1)

Author: Dana Marton

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
I was really curious how Dana Morton was going to be able to have readers understand how a character Cole Makani Hunter who can't hear is able to communicate in a book.
Readers will be pulled in from page one and won't be able to put the book down. readers will enjoy the carefree Annie Murray and love her ability to love those who other would feel are unlovable.
Dana Marton is able to a story where readers will have a better understanding of what it is like for those returning home from the military who are left feeling half of who they once were.
The pain and wondering if life is worth living. The story is a romance but it also about help those returning from batter with physical scars as well as emotional scars.
The story will have readers hooked and wanting more

Book Review: Tomfoolery (Tommy Fox #3) by Graham Ison

Tomfoolery (Tommy Fox Thriller #3)
Title: Tomfoolery (Tommy Fox #3)

Author: Graham Ison

Stars: 5 Stars

Review:
This is an oldie (1992) but a goodie. A first class British police mystery which is accurate for the time period. Subtle British humor coupled with a realistic plot of theft and murder. There is nothing in this book but a well told story so no one should be offended.

I rated this book 5 stars.

I obtained this book from Amazon in Kindle format

Synopsis:
When a walk-in thief rips off dozens of hotel rooms at a posh West London hotel, both Jack Gilroy and his governor, Tommy Fox receive the call. It seems the thieves had a taste for fine jewellery.

New Scotland Yard’s Detective Chief Superintendent Tommy Fox, operational head of the Flying Squad, takes on the case of tomfoolery. With a hundred’s grand worth of jewellery stolen, Fox knows this was a professional heist.

With two suspects identified, and the getaway car, Fox and Gilroy have a lot to start off with, or so they think.

There’s also a missing receptionist at the hotel … Wilkins. Could there be a connection? It is up to Detective Inspector Jack Gilroy and his team to find out, with Tommy Fox breathing down their necks.

When a set of finger prints are found in the getaway car, retrieved from the bottom of the river, Detective Sergeant Percy Fletcher is tasked with finding Jim Murchison, a small time crook.

Jane Meadows and Thomas Harley are linked through their golf club. Strangely, Thomas Harley has gone missing and his wife is worried. Soon, Jane Meadows and the man everyone thinks is Thomas Harley are the focal point of the investigation. They match the description of the thieves from the hotel.

Susan Harley seems to be totally oblivious to her husband’s antics.

But, Thomas Harley is also identical to Wilkins, the missing receptionist …

But Thomas Harley is dead … he is buried at a church. He’s been dead for some time. Confusion sinks in as the plot takes on a whole new turn.

A missing businessman, a mysterious funeral, a dead body and a near-naked blonde are not all that they seem. And so one thing leads to another … as it invariably does in the work of the Criminal Investigation Department. As Fox widens the circle of his enquiries, petty villains take cover — as do one or two members of the Flying Squad — and even a French detective in the South of France starts to feel threatened.

Merry Christmas from Arizona

Merry Christmas From Arizona
Image result for Funny Merry Christmas from Arizona

I love snow on Christmas. I grew up with snow at Christmas, drinking hot chocolate, bundling up ion coats, hats, gloves, scarfs, snow suits, snow boots, and once it was all on running from house to house singing carols. Slipping on Ice, Sledding down the snow hills and cold winds that never seem to go away.

Now I wear flip flip, drink hot chocolate, sweatshirt in the morning to drop the kids who are freezing at 45 degree weather. No ice, No sledding hills, walking my dog during the day and at night. The mornings are too cold at 35 degrees. We might need to run the A\C this year but hoping to keep it off.

Every ones Christmas is different but the greatest thing we celebrate is the birth of Christ. We give love, hope charity to those around us as well as those in need.
As I reflect on this year, I have lost friends to cancer, found new strength I didn't know was possible, Ive watched as loved ones struggle to find there place, angry that never seems to end, hatred, sad because I am feeling lost in a world where angry fuels and love is cursed. I could take the road where and remember 2017 as the worst year.
I am taking the road less travel: The same road I took when I moved away from home 16 years ago,
I look at 2017 and see the amazing gifts that have been given to me:  Health in my family, a new found strength, spiritual strength, new authors I can't stop reading books from, understanding of my children, I found friends who are now family, I found true friends who will stick by my crazy and a husband who will fight until he has found happiness.

I was once told loss of someone leaves a whole in your heart that can never be filled. It is true but instead of a hole it is felled with beautiful memories of love, service and unconditional love.

Have a Very Merry Christmas! Be with those you love.

Book Review:Blue Murder by Graham Ison

Blue Murder
Title: Blue Murder

Author: Graham Ison

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
An author you will either like or dislike. I fall in the former category and devour his offerings in one setting. This book was no exception. An excellent British police mystery with an overall London setting. Being acquainted with many of the areas described in the tale only made it better for its accuracy.

I have given this book a five star rating.

Thank you Frank

Synopsis:
To command the International and Organised Crime branch at the heart of the CID’s London operation is the dream of every Scotland Yard detective. When offered to Tommy Fox, however, it is the Met’s last chance of reining in its most brilliant, single-minded and tempestuous detective before his unorthodox investigative practices overstep the mark once and for all.

But only a matter of seconds into his new job a case is handed to Commander Fox that is too inviting to leave to his subordinates.

In a yacht moored off the Cyprus coast a British businessman, Michael Leighton, and his two female ‘companions’ have been found murdered, the victims of twenty-seven rounds from an assault rifle.

With a cache of cocaine on board, it seems just another drug-smuggling murder enquiry is about to get under way — but Fox, taking personal charge of the investigation in Cyprus and London, is on the scent of something infinitely more revealing …

When sexually explicit videos and photographs are discovered at the dead man’s company premises in Fulham, Fox and his team realise they have stumbled upon Leighton Leisure Services’ profitable sideline in pornographic movies — with in-house production techniques and a Europe-wide distribution network.

The star of these masterpieces? None other than the late, and apparently rather energetic, Mr Michael Leighton himself.

And the recent death of a young woman in suspicious circumstances raises the heat of the investigation further, particularly as enquiries show she was the daughter of one of Fox’s oldest and most slippery adversaries in the criminal underworld.

Despite uncovering a plethora of suspects, the vice trade is proving a difficult nut for Fox to crack in the hunt for a triple-murderer, who may be covering his tracks by killing again; but as its co-ordinator and chief investigator, there is no better man than Tommy Fox in getting to the bottom of this case’s decidedly murky depths.

About The Author:
Kathryn Shay
Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.

Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to
have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."

Title: Tell It Like It Is (Northstar Security #5)

Author: Stanalei Fletcher

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
Stanalei Fletcher is able to bring romance, suspense and fun to the pages of her NorthStar Security series. Each book and story can be read as a stand alone or part of the series. Readers will not be lost jumping in on book five. Nelson Kane is from book 4 in the series but the author is able to bring readers up to date fast without any confusion.
Justine Shelby is strong female characters and with the little background readers are able to figure out on their own why she became a Northstar Security agent. Rosalee is a lively character they readers will enjoy but get frustrated with at the same time. Its not hard to figure out the mystery side of the story but the romance is what will keep readers hooked.
Stanalei Fletcher create a fast past story that readers can enjoy during the Christmas season.

Murder by Magic (Inspector Skelgill Investigates, #5)
Title: Murder by Magic (Inspector Skelgill Investigates #5)

Author: Bruce Beckham

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
If you enjoy British Police mysteries you will enjoy this book. It is a good story line and well told. However, having said that, the use of local dialect and excessive scenery descriptions can be off-putting and make for difficult reading. I resided in England, off and on, for over 20 years and I had difficulty at times with the local grammar used.

That said I have rated this book 4 stars for the plot and enjoyment received  from a well developed story line.

I obtained this book from Amazon in Kindle format.
Thank you Frank for your review

Synopsis:
A SPATE OF VICIOUS ATTACKS upon valuable Herdwick sheep, the sudden disappearance of a foreign hiker, and the unexplained drowning of a woodland hermit – a series of apparently unconnected events – draw Detective Inspector Daniel Skelgill to the white-knuckle passes and isolated dales of deepest Lakeland.

As straws in the wind begin to suggest there is sorcery afoot – and perhaps some connection to an equally sinister trade in human traffic – Skelgill and his team risk dire consequences as they strive to fathom the mystery, infiltrate the secretive ring and expose its evil perpetrators.

In the fifth Inspector Skelgill novel, the maverick British detective faces what is his greatest challenge yet, as he strives to overcome an error of judgement that could leave his career – and his life – in tatters.

Title: THE FORGOTTEN (L.A.P.D. Special Investigations - Prequel Book 0

Review:
I found this story to well paced but it is much more a contemporary romance and not even close to s suspense story.
There is a lot of conflict which will pull at readers heart strings as feel for both of the main\lead characters.  Once I realized the story wasn't suspenseful I was able to enjoy the book and the writers flow though the story as she brings readers to better understanding of what Love truly means.  The story was nicely placed for a contemporary romance but if your are looking for the suspense you will be disappointed.

Book Review: Dangerous Promise (The Protector #1) by Megan Hart

Dangerous Promise (The Protector, #1)
Title: Dangerous Promise (The Protector #1)

Author: Megan Hart

Star: 4 stars

Review:
When I started this book I knew it was part of a series and the concept sounded interesting. While it isn't unusually to find a female body guard not featured in romance and romantic suspense series this one added a little twist that had me thinking long after I finished the book.
Nina Bronson is human but while her body and mind were once human she is now part cyborg (Technological enhancements )  for lack of a better word.  She signed her life away to the military without realizing the could do what they wanted with her body.
The author's ability to write Nina keeping her part human and part cyborg I enjoyed.  Megan Hart about into question a lot on how technology has changed out world and can change out our in the future.
The author played both side of the questions she asked and it was enjoyable to read the debate and banter that flowed natural though out the book.
I can't wait to read the next in the series
I personally enjoy books that have me thinking long after I put the book away and start the next one.
Thank you to Netglley and the Publisher: St. Martin's for the advance copy.

Synopsis:
Dive into the first book in this fantastic new series set in the near future from New York Times bestselling author Megan Hart!
Nina Bronson used to be all human -- until the experimental surgeries and internal technology that saved her life and enhanced her as a soldier also forced her to leave the army for private service. Now she and her peers are facing slow, painful deaths unless their technology is upgraded, and the one man keeping those upgrades illegal and unavailable is an obnoxious billionaire. A man too gorgeous for his own good.
A man she’s supposed to guard with her life.
Ewan Donahue is the public voice speaking out against the enhancement procedures of injured soldiers. But when his lobbying leads to death threats, he needs someone to protect him around the clock. He doesn’t want to rely on an enhanced soldier—Nina’s tech goes against everything he stands for. But he really doesn’t want her to be beautiful like she is. Doesn’t want her to suffer like she will.
Doesn’t want to succumb to the searing desire he feels for her.
As a series of attacks on his life send them to a remote cabin, their close proximity brings them together in ways they never imagined. They know they must prevent the need simmering between them, resist each other at all costs. But when tensions are high and danger is close, passion burns hottest of all…

Book Review: Stay With Me (Lazarus Rising #3) by Cynthia Eden

Stay With Me by Cynthia Eden
Title: Stay With Me (Lazarus Rising #3)

Author: Cynthia Eden

Stars: 3 sstars

Review:
I love Cynthia Eden books she is able to bring feisty characters and create twist that readers will never see coming.
Stay with Me can be read as a stand alone novel it has ties into the Book 1 and 2 but not until the end of the story.
The story was well paced, the romance was insta love which seems to be the normal for Cynthia Eden books recently.
The story moved along fast not giving readers into time to digest what was happening until the very end of the story. If there was down time the characters were having sex.
The story was lacking meat to it and when the author would dive into the past it was pushed aside fast with sex or guns.
Stay with me needed more meat to the story.

Book Review Mine to Save (Rescue Ops #3) by Diana Gardin

Mine to Save (Rescue Ops #3)
Title: Mine to Save (Rescue Ops #3

Author: Diana Gardin

Stars: 3 1/2 Stars

Review:
The author writes from the two leads different points of view and each chapter is titled with the who will be speaking to keep readers from getting confused.
I enjoyed the author created a female characters who has issues more than broken home and past. She struggles with Autism. The author was able to capture the intelligence and the  compulsions a lot of people with autism have.  She made Sayward very likable and Bennett very caring when his past said otherwise.

The story its self failed to pull me in leaving wondering the purpose of the story and the characters. For the first several chapters the story pulled along dragging readers with it.  Mine to save I found lacking in pace which caused this reader to stop reading.

Synopsis:
I make everything complicated. Instead of being content owning a bar, I accept a job with the Rescue Ops team at Night Eagle Security. Apparently, guys with Special Forces explosives training are hard to come by. And instead of hooking up with one of the many women who flirt with me, I have to fall for hacker Sayward Diaz. Not only is she one of my new co-workers, she's also just become my first assignment. Like I said, complicated.

When Sayward's father dies and his secret ties to the Columbia cartel put her in danger, it's my job to keep her safe at all costs. For a woman who's more comfortable with computers than humans, she's not exactly thrilled to have me as her bodyguard--or by our undeniable spark. And with threats coming at us from all sides, I can't let our attraction compromise her safety. Because if I do, my first mission might be my last.

Book Review: The Apple Of My Eye by Mary Ellen Bramwell

The Apple of My Eye
Title: The Apple Of My Eye

Author: Mary Ellen Bramwell

Stars: 4 out of 5

Review:
A modern day story of love found and lost at an early age. A young mother loses her husband in what appears to be very tragic circumstances. After going through her stages of grief she begins to investigate and is truly disturbed and disappointed in what she discovers. But there is a bright side which comes forth and will leave the reader feeling both good and sad. The story line is believable and most of us will know someone who would fit the description of her husband.

I have given this book 4 stars.

I obtained this book from Amazon in Kindle format.
Thank you Frank

Stars: 4 stars from 11 year old and 5 stars from 8 year old

Review:
Review from my 11 year old son.
Its a good book. I mean its a little easy for me to read but I really liked. It taught me alot about Avalanches and how destructive they can be. The characters are pretty awesome and I finished it in a night. The pictures were awesome and I learned a lot about survival.
Review from 8 year old daugher
This book was awesome mom! I learned all about Avalnches and it talked about how cold it gets and how you can freeze. Did you know if you fall asleep cold you can die in your sleep!
The book told me how to survive but I think I could die from the cold. The book was awesome and I was able to read it in a night. Fun, fast read.

Book Review: Safe at Hawk's Landing (Badge of Justice #2) by Rita Herron

Safe at Hawk's Landing (Badge of Justice #2)
Title: Safe at Hawk's Landing (Badge of Justice #2)

Author:  Rita Herron

Stars: 3 1\2 stars

Review:
3 1\2 stars
I love Rita Herron All The Pretty Faces from the Graveyfall Series and I have read the first in the Badge of Justice Series so I feel I have a pretty good idea on the authors writing style.
Her Justice series has a great story line but everything feel very rushed which is understandable being it a Harlequin Intrigue series and they have a limited word count. The story moves along at a fast pace and the author is able to pull readers in right off the bat when Charlotte Reacher is hit so hard she loses her sight and has to trust those around her to keep her safe.
Human Trafficking is big this year in books but Rita Herron is able to pull at readers heart strings as well as give romance and suspense readers expect from Harlequin Intrigue series. I wish the story was long so really flush out the characters which is lacking in the first book and the second book.
Thank you to netgelley as well as the publishers Harlequin Intrigue

About The Author:
Rita Herron
USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. Although she wanted to be a writer then and actually scrawled her first novel at age twelve, she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a kindergarten teacher instead. Ten years ago, she traded her classroom storytelling and puppets for a computer and now writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job.
Having sold over fifty books to date, she enjoys spinning spine-tingling romantic suspense tales filled with murder, mayhem, and spicy romance as well as sexy romantic comedies. Rita Herron currently writes romantic suspense for Harlequin Intrigue and she’s writing dark, gritty romantic suspense thrillers for Amazon Montlake.
