Synopsis:
The earl of Shaftesbury's countess must be refined. Cultured. Perfect. It was a lesson that proper Evelyn Ashley-Cooper had learned flawlessly over six oppressive years of marriage. Even when widowhood freed her from the prison her life had become, Eve still floundered under the veneer of perfection that her domineering husband demanded, unable to unleash the lively girl she once was from the confines of her prim exterior.

But when her long-lost first love Francis MacKintosh, earl Glenrothes reappears in her life, Eve is tempted by the desire to escape her proper façade and the longing to truly live once again. Discovering that enticement alone cannot overrule years of tyranny, Eve struggles between her old self and the new, between yearning to be with him and a determination never to put herself under the thumb of another man - even one she discovers she still loves as much as her Glenrothes.

Since meeting a vivacious, young Eve many years before, Francis MacKintosh has become a man embittered by life, by a wife who has made him a cuckold to the whole of Scotland and by a humiliating divorce that has rained scandal down upon the heads of himself and his family for years. Never had he thought that he would find Eve, his Eden, once again or that he would dare push aside his disdain of the fairer sex, to trust and love once more. But for Eve, for the love and happiness he is suddenly certain they can find only in each other, he finds himself willing to take a chance.

If only he might convince his true love to do the same!

Francis' seduction and ability to blend her proper side with the spirited Eve of years past lure the countess back to him but just when happiness seems but a step away, their mutual pasts will come crashing down around them attempting to tear them apart and Eve and Francis will have to risk their lives for a future together.

The question remains, will their rediscovered love be enough to conquer all?

Book Review: Superior Collision (Crossing Forces #5) by C.A. Szarek

Superior Collision (Crossing Forces, #5)
Title: Superior Collision (Crossing Forces #5)

Author: C.A. Szarek

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
I wasn't sure about reading book 5 in a series. I wondered if the author would rest of the same story line or change things around suprising readers with something new and different.

I have to say this might be the best in the series. The story moves effortlessly from the previous novel. C.A. Szarek  is able to writes action scenes where readers feel they are riding front and center as the story moves forward.
The basic story is one of self reflection from the "Control Freak" FBI Taylor. What she sees as weakness ended ups being her strength which the male lead Shannon helps her discover.
The story is simple but the author is able to create a character that is able to see though her emotional heartache to grow and develop.

Book Review Murder Notes (Lilah Love #1) by Lisa Renee Jones

Murder Notes (Lilah Love, #1)

Title: Murder Notes (Lilah Love #1)

Author: Lisa Renee Jones

Stars: 3 1/2 stars

Review:
The story feels like there is more to it but somewhere it falls flat. It could be because she mention Cujo her shotgun in almost every single chapter or the endless monologue Lisa Renee Jones uses though out the story.  The more Lisa Renee Jones uses the inner working of the lead characters mind the slower the story becomes until it stops the flow of the story and leaves readers trying to decide if they should finish the book or more on to something with a little more bite.  Lilah is suppose to be a expert profiler but seems lost to many times and readers will lose hope in Lilah.

The story has lots of promise but falls flat many times.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher  Montlake Romance for the advance copy

Synopsis:

What Are You Afraid Of? (The Agency #2)
Title: What Are You Afraid Of? (The Agency #2)

Author: Alexandra Ivy

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
This is the second book in the Agency Series it is a stand alone novel but once you read it you will go back to read the first in the series because it is just that good.
Alexandra Ivy is able to pull readers in from the beginning to the end finding the little twist that will hook readers and pull them willing into this series. The wild ride that will take readers across the United States will have readers guessing who could be the killer or killers?
Carmen Jacobs doesn't seem like she would be a writer of serial killer or that those killers would have a following that is willing to kill her. Griffin is a Software millionaire that will keep Carmen safe. The story will pull at readers hearts strings as Carmen comes face to face with family who have secrets.

I think most readers will see what every twist that are in the story but its the romance between Carmen and Griffin that will keep readers hooked wanting a happy ending.

I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Zebra, for the advance copy

Synopsis:
They aren’t the kind of women anyone misses. Truck-stop hookers, runaways . . . no one would even notice they’d disappeared if the killer didn’t photograph their lifeless bodies, posed in the back of a

NOW HE’LL TEACH HERCarmen Jacobs interviewed the world’s most terrifying serial killers for her bestselling book, The Heart of a Predator. The police might not believe her, but she knows there’s a monster out there, paying homage to other murderers. The only person who can predict where he’ll strike next is Griffin Archer—a reclusive software millionaire with ample reason not to help her.

HOW TO DIE . . .Carmen has charmed her way past Griffin’s defenses before. He didn’t intend to let it happen again. But with a psycho sending her trophies of his kills, he has no choice but to get involved. The clues point to a killer obsessed with Carmen—someone who knows her work, her past, her secrets. Someone who won’t be satisfied until he has made all her deepest fears come true .

About The Author:
Alexandra Ivy
I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Thank you Frank for the Review.

Synopsis:
After five seasons as a wallflower, Lettie Fairchild is resigned to spinsterhood. Mostly. Determined to claim more meaning for her life than seeing her younger sisters married, she seeks a purpose. She finds what she's looking for when she happens upon a book describing seven curses that plague London.

Nathaniel Hawke is attempting to adjust to civilian life after retiring from the military, but his injured leg and memories of his time in the service prevent an easy transition. On his long walks during London's darkest hours, Nathaniel is appalled by what he sees taking place on the dirty streets and alleyways. He is determined to take action. Coming upon a proper, if rebellious, lady in the desolate area both intrigues and frustrates him.

Nathaniel's disregard for his personal safety infuriates Lettie even as her heart is touched by his determination to aid the city's neglected children.

As the two wounded souls stumble upon each other time and again in slums and ballrooms, they realize they fight a common cause--and share an unbridled passion.

Will the curse they fight be their downfall? Or will love win the day?

Book Review: Lie Close To Me (Lazarus Rising #5) by Cynthia Eden

Lie Close To Me (Lazarus Rising Book 5)
Title: Lie Close To Me (Lazarus Rising #5

Author: Cynthia Eden

Stars: 3 1/2

Review:

If you know me I have read everything by Cynthia Eden but this book seem to fall a little flat for this reader.
I felt like I was reading the same story as the other 4 in this series. While the characters are different something just seem to drag this story out a little to long for me.  There was more sex than story which bought the story many times to a stop.
The characters are super humans that are able to do everything at the basic human level but are able to come back to life making them the perfect fighting machines.
This story didn't stand out from the crowd but more or less faded from my memory as soon as I put the book down.
Not all books can be perfect.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy

Synopsis:
He’s Lazarus, and so is she. What happens when their worlds collide?

She doesn’t remember him. So when Maddox hunts her down, she’s terrified of him…and of the strange psychic and sensual connection they seem to share. Surely she shouldn’t want him so much?

Luna is different from the other Lazarus subjects, and Maddox isn’t the only one hunting her. She’s a dangerous threat to Project Lazarus, and Luna isn’t going to be allowed to just slip away from the U.S. government…or from the other super soldiers who are also desperate to find her. Review:
 3 1/2 stars

Trusting Danger is a romance right off the bat while there is suspense it is a romance as the two leads Grayson and Claire refuse to accept that they have feeling for each other.
The authors are able to create a picture with remorse, sadness, romance and action. While it wasn't perfect and I was lost even though I was told it was a stand alone novel I think readers would benefit from reading the first in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Altapoint Publishing for the copy of Trusting Danger.

Book Review: Watching You (Hollywood Heat #1) by Leslie A. Kelly

Watching You (Hollywood Heat, #1)

Title: Watching You (Hollywood Heat #1)

Author: Leslie A. Kelly

Stars: 3 stars

Review:
While writing the first book in the series set up to the rest of the book the Author will be writing it keeps to be done well to keep readers hooked for the next book. This book falls flat from the male and female points of view that readers will guess who is who at first to the cliffhanger that isn't needed.  Many loose end that could have been tied up in this book are left up in the air. The part that kept me wanting to put the book down and not finish it was the little stalker  manipulatively controlling romance.

First books in the series need to establish a backstory that can have understanding motive as well as character development but it can also have hidden gems.  This Story has no of that.
I do not think I will be reading the next in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy Leslie A. Kelly Watching You (Hollywood Heat #1)

Unfortunately, Jessica's real-life Cinderella story is about to take a deadly turn...

Reece's world is filled with fierce ambition and dark family secrets the Winchesters desperately want to hide. But he and his brothers aren't the only ones who know those secrets. Someone else is out there, waiting to strike. Waiting-and always watching.

When danger finally steps out of the shadows, Reece will have to face his past. And Jessica will have to decide just how far she can trust the man she loves with her heart...and her life.

Book Review Plum Tea Crazy (A Tea Shop Mystery #19) Laura Childs

Plum Tea Crazy (A Tea Shop Mystery, #19)
Title: Plum Tea Crazy (A Tea Shop Mystery #19)

Author: Laura Childs

Star: 4 out of 5

Review:
A very cozy mystery set in the beautiful locale of Charleston SC. The author is able to build a word picture of the area that made this reader feel he was there last week and not 40 years ago. The story unfolds quite nicely and will keep the reader engaged. The author gives a hint to solving the mystery if the reader is astute and able to grasp it's value. Overall a clean cut story with minimal violence.

I have given this book a four star rating.

Synopsis:
While viewing the harbor's Gaslights and Galleons Parade from the widow's walk of Timothy Neville's Charleston mansion, local banker Carson Lanier seemingly tumbles over a narrow railing, then plunges three stories to his death. But a tragic accident becomes something much more sinister when it's discovered that the victim was first shot with a bolt from a crossbow.

At the request of the mansion owner, Theodosia investigates the tragedy and is soon neck deep in suspects. An almost ex-wife, a coworker, a real estate partner--all had motives for killing the luckless banker, but one resorted to murder to settle accounts.

About The Author:

Laura Childs

Laura Childs is a pseudonym for Gerry Schmitt and she is the best-selling author of the Tea Shop Mysteries, the Scrapbook Mysteries, and the Cackleberry Club Mysteries.

Laura Childs is the New York Times bestselling author of the Tea Shop Mysteries, Scrapbook Mysteries, and Cackleberry Club Mysteries. In her previous life she was CEO/Creative Director of her own marketing firm and authored several screenplays. She is married to a professor of Chinese art history, loves to travel, rides horses, enjoys fund raising for various non-profits, and has two Chinese Shar-Pei dogs.

Laura specializes in cozy mysteries that have the pace of a thriller (a thrillzy!) Her three series are:

The Tea Shop Mysteries - set in the historic district of Charleston and featuring Theodosia Browning, owner of the Indigo Tea Shop. Theodosia is a savvy entrepreneur, and pet mom to service dog Earl Grey. She's also an intelligent, focused amateur sleuth who doesn't rely on coincidences or inept police work to solve crimes. This charming series is highly atmospheric and rife with the history and mystery that is Charleston.

The Scrapbooking Mysteries - a slightly edgier series that take place in New Orleans. The main character, Carmela, owns Memory Mine scrapbooking shop in the French Quarter and is forever getting into trouble with her friend, Ava, who owns the Juju Voodoo shop. New Orleans' spooky above-ground cemeteries, jazz clubs, bayous, and Mardi Gras madness make their presence known here!

The Cackleberry Club Mysteries - set in Kindred, a fictional town in the Midwest. In a rehabbed Spur station, Suzanne, Toni, and Petra, three semi-desperate, forty-plus women have launched the Cackleberry Club. Eggs are the morning specialty here and this cozy cafe even offers a book nook and yarn shop. Business is good but murder could lead to the cafe's undoing! This series offers recipes, knitting, cake decorating, and a dash of spirituality.
