Other Reviews:
If your idea of dancing is a one, two chip step and an occasional dip, then it's time for a different type of Salsa in your life. A fusion of African, Cuban and Latin American rhythms, the word means "flavor" or "style", and unlike the "show-off" dancing that takes over the whole dance floor, this dance form occupies a smaller fixed area, retaining the intimacy of the dance while making it quite obvious that you know what you're doing.
Salsa utilizes an eight beat pattern, two bars of four beats, with three steps and a skipped beat in each bar. The skipped beat is often used for something fancy like a toe tap or kick. Salsa can be danced solo or with a partner, but you'd better learn both, because once you start strutting your stuff on the dance floor you're sure to get a lot of willing partners.

If you're serious about kicking your dance life up a notch, and have a partner that doesn't have two left feet, this Beginners three-pack is recommended for you. If you just want to taste before buying, you should rent or borrow Volume One, which is available separately, but for the whole experience, this three DVD package is the most convenient.

The instructors make it easy by first demonstrating the steps slowly, one movement at a time, and then repeating the figures over and over to give you enough time to get the idea. This means that you don't have to stop dancing and replay the section continuously, even though you still need to practice afterwards. The steps are eye-catching, and can be used in the formal ballroom dance arena as well as casually at a clubs, parties and even in your living room. For people who have previous experience with this dance form, the instructors offer up lots of tips and secrets, and even if you already dance like a star you can learn something from this series. (I showed this one to a highly experienced and qualified dance instructor, and even she was duly impressed.)

If you're ready to put some spice in your dance life, it's Salsa time!!! --Amanda Richards: HALL OF FAME, TOP 1000 REVIEWER, VINE VOICE
