Title:  Broken Places

Author Krista Hall

Review:  Trevy Barlow teaches a literacy class for at risk teens in the D.C. area hoping to change the lives of her students until one night when one student is killed.

FBI Gang Task Force Agent Cruz Larsen can't find one person to talk to him about the killing or what they saw, so he convinced do-gooder Trevy to trust him but when he gets close to solving the murder do-gooder Travy is put in the cross fire.

I enjoyed this book Broken Places because the author knew what she was writing about.  Her details gave the reader a look into the side world of gangs and how the members see themselves as a family. The author creates two likeable characters Travania Barlow who teaches gang members there is more to life than the gang and FBI agent Cruz Larsen gang task force trying to fix the cities gang problems one murder at a time.

Agent Cruz grew up in a gang -giving him special insight into the world and that is what drives passion to rid the world of gangs and the criminal lifestyle it bring.

The plot in the book leans more into the murder\Gang story and less Romance but there is enough sexual tension between the two leads to satisfy the romance readers.  I enjoyed how the author created two people completely opposite and made them work together creating them to be more likeable and almost real in the readers mind. Travania is trying to prove to the world she is more than a pretty face and that her knowledge about Gangs is not to make more money to but teach the world what gangs are all about and how they function in society.  With all the serious tone in the book the author was able to put some light moments offsetting the dark.

Its more than a beach read and the book will keep you up at night wondering who is causing the gang wars in D.C. and the second you figure it out the books ends.

I think this book might appeal to both sexes since the author wrote using both the female and males voices.  I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author.

Thanks Heidi for the review

Synopsis:   SHE'S ON A MISSION TO SAVE LIVES
When one of her students becomes the latest victim of a D.C. gang-slaying, sociology professor Trevy Barlow is determined to protect the other girls in her literacy class for at-risk teens—even if it means compromising her own safety.

HE'S ON A SHORT CLOCK TO FIND A KILLER
FBI gang task force agent Cruz Larsen isn’t about to let Trevy endanger herself or sidetrack his investigation with her do-gooder meddling. But when a key witness refuses to talk to anyone except her, Cruz has to find a way to earn her trust so that she’ll play by his rules.

NOW A SADISTIC PREDATOR IS AFTER THEM
For Cruz, keeping Trevy safe has become more than a duty—his heart is involved too. But all of his leads have flatlined. And he’s beginning to suspect that a hidden third party has rekindled the gang rivalry for reasons far beyond a D.C. turf war. Caught in the crossfire, Trevy will have to risk it all to give them a fighting chance to survive.
