Review: I love political
thrillers and this is a good one. I
haven’t read the other two in this series and if I get the time I will go back
and read those, but it is not necessary to have read them to enjoy this book,
Number 3. The characters are a bit over
the top and larger than life, but if they have lived the lives they portray
then it is necessary to be that way to stay alive. The authors dislike of Iran is apparent in
this book, but also he lets you know that there are good people even among the
worst of the worst. Good people live
everywhere and so do bad, every country, every race, every gender and every
socioeconomic situation.
The main character, Dewey, is a
kick-butt- ask questions later kind of guy who is living on the edge since
losing his family. He takes no prisoners
and drinks more than he should, but with his flaws he is more real, to me
anyway. The other character’s. and there
are lots of them, add to the authenticity of the story and the drama. There is a bit of sex, but a very small
amount and the language is strong in some of the more seasoned killer type
characters. I could have done without
some many F-Bombs. This is an adult
novel for sure.
The pace was fast and I kept turning
the page wondering how they were going to save Israel and the hostage. A great thriller that keeps you on the edge
of your seat, or pillow in my case, I love to read in bed. If you enjoy political thrillers/mysteries
you will love this book and most likely the series. Ben Coes had done a fabulous job of placing
the reader right in the middle of the action. I gave it only 4 stars because the language and the sexual situations may not be
for everyone.

Author Biography: BEN COES worked at the White House under President Ronald
Reagan and was a White House appointed speechwriter at the height of the Gulf
War. He was campaign manager of Mitt Romney's victorious run for Governor of
Massachusetts and was a Fellow at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School
of Government. Ben lives in the Boston area with his family.
