Book Review - Remembrance - Michelle Madow

Remembrance (Transcend Time, #1)
Title:  Remembrance

Review:  When I read the summary of this book I was not convinced that I would enjoy it, but I do love romance so decided to give it a try.  Well I just finished it and it wasn’t half bad.  A bit broody and whiny like many teenage romances are and a bit over the top in the drama department like most teenagers are.  Self-centered and believing the world revolves around them makes teenagers great characters for romances, keeps the reader on only their issues

I didn’t care for Alistair and I think if I had written this I would have left him out.  I felt that he was there only for the slow readers in the audience and that the book let you know what was going on well enough without any outside or inside assistance.  His presence just lead me not to enjoy the book as much as I could have and made me think that the whole idea of the book was stupid…or I was stupid if I needed his help figuring out what was going on.  I also think the constant reference to Pride and Prejudice got a bit old.

Drew was a dark brooding male lead who would be any girl’s fantasy and Lizzy needed a break from any boyfriends in my opinion.  Some girls can’t seem to be single.  I enjoyed the romance and the story even with the things I didn’t like.  If you enjoy romance and especially young adult romance without sex and adult themes you will enjoy this book.

Why I Read It:  The author was looking for reviewers.

Where I Obtained the Book: From the author.

Synopsis: New Hampshire high school junior Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England ... but she doesn't know it yet.

Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie's school at the beginning of the year, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can't stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can't she seem to get him out of her mind?

Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, the pair of them soon find that fighting fate isn't going to be easy.

Author Biography:  In the fall of 2009, I saw Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” music video for the first time. I thought up a story to go along with the video, and decided to write the beginning of this story as a homework assignment for class. That story eventually became my first novel, Remembrance. I'm so happy to be able to share this novel with you, and hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!

Check out my website, www.michellemadow.com, to add me on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and my many other social networking sites. I love making new book friends! :)

I'm currently studying creative writing at Johns Hopkins University, and am hard at work writing more novels for young adults.

  1. I wanted to read this but don't know if I will now because I'm not for the whiny books.
    Thanks for the review!
