Why I Read It: Read all the Percy Jackson books and enjoy the mythology.
Where I Obtained the Book: My 11 year old actually used his saved allowance to buy the book when it came out.

Review: Fun quick reads that educate you about mythology in a roundabout way. At least it helps you see the basic personalities of the various Gods and their relationship to each other. Rick Riordan is doing for mythology what JK Rowling has done for magic (or Meyer has done for Vampires if you prefer). Those comparisons are pretty fair, so if either of those series didn’t do it for you, or you don’t have a special love of the Greek gods, then this might not be your thing. But if they are then do start with the 5 books of the Percy Jackson series before this one.
The central story is a young man who doesn’t know who he is, lost in a world that isn’t his, learning to trust others and himself to conquer the problems life throws at him. It is an inspiring tale that both kids and adults can enjoy. And the end of the day I find myself looking forward to the next book to see what will happen, and wanting to expand my knowledge of mythology because it seems so cool. I would imagine the author would see both those results as tremendous successes. Especially since he accomplished the same thing with my 11 year old.
Author Biography: Award-winning author Rick Riordan was born on June 5, 1964, in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a double major in English and history, he taught in public and private middle schools for many years.
He writes the popular Tres Navarre mystery series for adults, as well as the children's series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. His short fiction has been featured in Mary Higgins Clark Mystery Magazine and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. He has won Edgar, Anthony, and Shamus Awards for his mystery novels.
