Book Review: Into Oblivion (Inspector Erlendur prequel) by Arnaldur Indriðason, Victoria Cribb (Translator)

Into Oblivion (Inspector Erlendur)
Title: Into Oblivion (Inspector Erlendur prequel)

Author:  Arnaldur Indriðason, Victoria Cribb (Translator)

Stars: 4 out of 5

Review:
This story goes back into Officer Erlendur life as he is starting out as a detective for the CID in Iceland.  If you enjoy crime dramas set in other parts of the world this is a good series.  I was sad to hear the author had ended the series with a book a few years ago and I guess I was not the only one as he is writing about this haunted, deeply thoughtful man again.  We get to meet him as a young man struggling with a divorce and young children.  This is a new side to this detective and this thriller is set in the mid 80's during the cold war and when the US was still in Iceland and causing issues with the locals.
I enjoy reading books by Arnaldur Irdridason and look forward to more about Erlendur and his detective partners.  This is a mystery that covers decades and involves two murders many years apart.  Erlendur is a great detective who doesn't give up when all hope is lost, he keeps digging and digging.  I give this book 4 stars out of 5 because it was a good read, a great story background for my favorite Icelandic detective. I look forward to more in this series,  A plug for my favorite Erlendur mystery is called Voices.  Voices the book still haunts me when I think about Iceland.  If you love mysteries this is one that will keep you thinking and pondering what life is really about.
Thank You Lisa for the review

Synopsis:
In Into Oblivion, a follow-up to the gritty prequel Reykjavik Nights, Arnaldur Indridason gives devoted fans another glimpse of Erlendur in his early days as a young, budding detective.

It is 1979, a few years after Reykjavik Nights closed, and Erlendur is now a detective, already divorced, and is working for the shadowy Marion Briem. A body of a man has been found in the blue lagoon, which has not yet become the tourist spot it is today. Apparently the victim fell from a great height, and at first the police investigate the possibility that he has been thrown out of an airplane.

In parallel, Erlendur is asked to investigate the cold case of a young girl who vanished into thin air on her way to school forty years earlier.
