Book Review - Pirate Latitudes - Michael Crichton

Title: Pirate Latitudes

Review: I realize this book is from a few years ago, but I like this author and so I decided to read it. As I read this book I could feel the warm tropical breezes, feel the humid sun in the sky and yet it was cold here in Minnesota at the time. I loved the way the author wrapped you up tight in his little world and kept you there until the end. This is not one of his bests, I think his best was Timeline, but this is a good book that is faced paced and exciting to read.

This book reminded me of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean a bit and the characters were rich and full of life. I would suggest this book to anyone who needs a good escape, especially on a cold winter’s night.

Why I Read It: I’ve read most of the books from this author, so why not this one?

Where I Obtained the Book: Our public library.

Synopsis: The Caribbean, 1665. Port Royal, Jamaica is a cutthroat town of taverns, grog shops, and bawdy houses. For Captain Charles Hunter, there’s a living to be made, and gold in Spanish hands is gold for the taking.

Word in port is that the galleon El Trinidad is awaiting repairs in a nearby, heavily fortified, harbor. Hunter assembles a crew of ruffians to infiltrate the enemy island and commandeer El Trinidad, along with its fortune in gold. The raid is as perilous as the bloodiest tales of island legend and Hunter will lose more than one man before he even sets foot on foreign shores, where dense jungle and the firepower of Spanish infantry stand between him and the treasure . . .

With all the suspense that readers have come to expect from one of the best-loved authors of all time, Pirate Latitudes is an irresistible adventure of swashbuckling pirates in the New World, a classic story of treasure and betrayal.
