Book Feature - Baby Daddy - S. Newman Spenzer

Synopsis:
Baby Daddy is the story of seventeen-year-old Deshawn Margray, who is named in a paternity suit after a thoughtless sexual encounter at a party. He is desperate to conceal his plight from his mother, a single parent with a meager income. Mother and son are already haunted by memories of a neighborhood youth who took his own life in a desperate attempt to escape the legal system’s relentless pursuit. Determined to protect his mother from being re-exposed to the nightmare that has left its pall over the community, Deshawn is torn between fleeing and facing the legal process alone. He tries to navigate his way through a hostile system, but every attempt to learn anything about his baby daughter is thwarted and he quickly finds himself labeled a “deadbeat dad”. A brutish child support collection agency succeeds in driving him to his breaking point. A physical confrontation with an insufferable caseworker ensues, and the altercation leads to an unexpected discovery that abruptly shifts the course of Deshawn’s future.

Praise for Baby Daddy-

“Baby Daddy is an incredible read. It is extremely rare to come across this type of story told from the male's point of view.”

“Deshawn's story was very well crafted. . . . Spenzer's emotive writing gives the story a very realistic tone that makes for a fast read. Deshawn's losses are steep, and his wins are hard fought, but very worth it.”

  1. It's a difficult book to read, very real and emotionally upsetting. The situations thrown at DeShawn could only be crafted by someone who deals with similar situations daily and clearly understands both sides of the "system."
