Hunger Games - Review of the movie

Why We Saw the Movie: We took the family to see this movie two weeks after it came out. I loved this book and was worried that the movie would taint my memory or the pages. My youngest has little interest in reading so I told him he couldn’t see the movie until he or I read the book(to him). It was a slow start with only one or two chapters a night and then boom he was asking for more and more and I had to quit after five chapters to save my voice. He loved the book and I have to tell you that all through the movie he kept whispering in my ear what was not exactly like the book. (I think that is a problem for people who don’t read much…when they do read the book and then see the movie the changes make a huge impact on them.)

Review - What we thought: Loved it…completely and unconditionally. The characters were perfect…Katniss was excellent and really played like the character in my head. The emotions I felt when reading the book were there in the movie and maybe just a bit stronger at times. (SPOILER* The little curly head boy in the games…when he was killed I felt it harder than when I read the book. I looked at that face and thought ‘That is someone’s baby and they just killed him for nothing.’ Almost 900 children had been killed in the 74 years of the Hunger Games. Fiction yes....but something to think about as we vote for our leaders this November.)

The scenes of the Capital and the Gamemakers were fabulous…Katniss would say things in the book about what was most likely going on outside the games, but you didn’t know for sure. That part was better than the book, I have never thought any part of a movie was better than the book….never!

The whole movie was incredible and I’m glad I didn’t shy away from seeing it. If you enjoyed the book go see the movie. If you haven’t read the book yet…READ IT!!!! Then go see the movie.

Quick Rating: 5 stars all the way.

FYI: Interesting, but make your own opinion of the message. A Trailer and Three movie reviews from Youtube!

  1. I almost didn't go see the movie because I was worried it would be another Twilight. I didn't care much for the trailer but I thought I would wait and see the reviews and go if they were good. IT WAS AMAZING!!! I loved the movie but there were some parts they cut out I wish they had kept. Like the mayors daughter giving the pin. That is my only complaint.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised. If I had not read the books I don't think I would have enjoyed as much. I personally did not like the kid playing Peeta. Overall I think it is one of the better book adaptations out there.

  3. I definitely agree that you should read the book before going. My brother went with me and he hadn't read the book and he was very confused about Katniss and Peeta's relationship. The break clips weren't helpful to him but I understood.
