Children's Book Review - The Snowman's Revenge - Mark Smythe and winner of the Banned Book Blog Hop

The Snowman's Revenge

Author:  Mark Smythe

Review: The illustrations in this cute children book are bright and inviting, they tell the story as well as the words.    The words are in rhyme and fun to read with your children.  I enjoyed the timing, but I was a bit disturbed by the Snowmans expressions.  He is a bit scary looking and even more so as he decides he wants to scare the kids for leaving him outside alone.  I think that it is almost a winter wonderland tale meets a Halloween fright.

My kids love to stay home from school on a Snow Day and they love to play outside making snowmen and then coming into drink hot cocoa and relax.  I don't think any of us have ever thought of having the snowman decide he wanted to come in also.  Snowman belong outside and this book is a bit spooky in my opinion.  My daughter thought it was funny, but then she wasn't happy about the idea of a fright from a live snowman in the house.  She thought that he belonged outside and someone just needed to tell him that.

I would love to say that I loved this book, but I just liked it.  My youngest son wants to see a book about killer snowmen, he thinks that would be way cool.  With this book I felt the need to explain to my kids that it is just make-believe and snowmen do not feel the cold or want to come in the house.
