Book Review: Gone Daddy Gone (Sloane Monroe #7) by Cheryl Bradshaw

Gone Daddy Gone by Cheryl Bradshaw
Title: Gone Daddy Gone (Sloane Monroe #7)

Author: Cheryl Bradshaw

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
This is the first I have read in the Sloane Monroe series and while starting in book 7 might not be the best idea this author knows how to pull reader in right away.
This is not a stand alone novel but readers just starting off can get a pretty good idea who everyone is with a little time.
The characters are very interesting even though they are many to keep track of and one to many C names. What I liked best about Cheryl Bradshaw even the secondary characters have a reason and a purpose to the story.

The author keeps readers guess who the killer is and she won't give anything away until the author is reveals the person.
Starting in book 7 wasn't the best idea but the author is able to pull this reader in with a fast pace mystery that has me wanting to go back and read the 1-6.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Kobo Writing Life for the advance copy of  Gone Daddy Gone by Cheryl Bradshaw

Book Review: Cold Malice (Cold Justice #8) by Toni Anderson

Cold Malice (Cold Justice, #8)
Title: Cold Malice (Cold Justice #8)

Author: Toni Anderson

Star: 5

Review:
I have read everything by Toni Anderson and this book by far was the most addictive. I couldn't  put it down once I started.
The write was exciting, fresh and the banter was perfectly paced not slowing down the story but coming naturally from the characters.
Toni Anderson as an ability to give the readers everything they need with such detail it will send chills down their backs. Each characters feels are express to the point readers will feel Tess pain and heartache. Readers will cry when she cries and celebrate when she celebrates.  The story came to an abrupt end and I wasn't ready to say good bye to this story. I wanted and almost needed more of Mac and Tess and the white supremacist who were hiding away ready to strike!
This by far is one of the best in the Cold Justice series and if you have read any than you know that is a feat. The Cold Justice series only get better and better with each book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Toni Anderson for a chance to review this well written story that will keep readers on their toes dying for more.

Synopsis:
ASAC Steve (Mac) McKenzie is out to prove himself by leading a task force investigating a series of murders in the heart of Washington, DC. His undercover work in an antigovernment compound twenty years earlier is related—as is the sweet, innocent girl he befriended back then. Now that girl is a beautiful woman, and she has something to hide.

Tess Fallon spent a lifetime trying to outrun her family’s brand of bigotry, but someone is threatening her anonymity by using the anniversary of her father’s death to carry out evil crimes and she’s terrified her younger brother is involved. She sets out to find the truth and comes face-to-face with a man she once idolized, a man she thought long dead. As the crimes escalate it becomes obvious the killer has an agenda, and Tess and Mac are running out of time to stop him.

Will the perpetrator use a decades-old dream of revolution to attack the federal government? And will the fact that Tess and Mac have fallen hard for each other give a cold-hearted killer the power to destroy them both?

Book Review: Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

Title: Goodbye Days

Author: Jeff Zentner

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
I do not like to cry for any reason and I will not go see a sad movie or read a sad book for that reason, but his book hit so many other marks as a story that I allowed the tears to come over and over again.  This is a book I pulled from the shelf in my language arts room at school.  We had ordered many books for the students and I am trying to read them all so I have good suggestions to make to students looking for a book to read during independent reading time in class.  I pulled this one and started reading it without know what it was about.

A few friends are driving when another friend texts them to hurry up, the 3 boys are killed in an accident at that same time.  This is the story of how the one boy who sent the text copes along with the families of the 3 that are killed.  Heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.  I loved this book even with all the tears.  The idea of goodbye days really made me think about death and how we deal with it.  I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars for the topic it dealt with is tough, but the story was lovely and filled with hope and love.  Forgiveness of ourselves is the hardest forgiveness to give.  This is a book that will keep you reading and thinking about long after you have sent it down.
Thank You Lisa for the Review

Synopsis:
What if you could spend one last day with someone you lost?

One day Carver Briggs had it all—three best friends, a supportive family, and a reputation as a talented writer at his high school, Nashville Academy for the Arts.

The next day he lost it all when he sent a simple text to his friend Mars, right before Mars, Eli, and Blake were killed in a car crash.

Now Carver can’t stop blaming himself for the accident, and he’s not the only one. Eli’s twin sister is trying to freeze him out of school with her death-ray stare. And Mars’s father, a powerful judge, is pressuring the district attorney to open a criminal investigation into Carver’s actions.

Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli’s girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake’s grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a Goodbye Day with her to share their memories and say a proper goodbye to his friend.

Soon the other families are asking for a Goodbye Day with Carver, but he’s unsure of their motives. Will they all be able to make peace with their losses, or will these Goodbye Days bring Carver one step closer to a complete breakdown or—even worse—prison?

Book Review: Running the Risk (Endgame Ops #2) by Lea Griffith

Running the Risk (Endgame Ops #2)
Title: Running the Risk (Endgame Ops #2)

Author:  Lea Griffith

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
This story is a little more over the top than most when it comes to second chance romance and betrayal.  The author puts the two main characters in interesting places to have sex and at times I wanted to laugh where she had placed them.
This story is in a series that don't end with the end of this book but the Happily Ever After for Elle and Jude does.
Lea Griffinth has the ability to keep readers hooked to the main story while they wonder what will happen in the next book and who will come out unharmed in the process.
The Lea Griffinth has the ability to write a complex story that will keep on going well past book 2 and readers will eat it up wanting more.

Book Review: Into Oblivion (Inspector Erlendur prequel) by Arnaldur Indriðason, Victoria Cribb (Translator)

Into Oblivion (Inspector Erlendur)
Title: Into Oblivion (Inspector Erlendur prequel)

Author:  Arnaldur Indriðason, Victoria Cribb (Translator)

Stars: 4 out of 5

Review:
This story goes back into Officer Erlendur life as he is starting out as a detective for the CID in Iceland.  If you enjoy crime dramas set in other parts of the world this is a good series.  I was sad to hear the author had ended the series with a book a few years ago and I guess I was not the only one as he is writing about this haunted, deeply thoughtful man again.  We get to meet him as a young man struggling with a divorce and young children.  This is a new side to this detective and this thriller is set in the mid 80's during the cold war and when the US was still in Iceland and causing issues with the locals.
I enjoy reading books by Arnaldur Irdridason and look forward to more about Erlendur and his detective partners.  This is a mystery that covers decades and involves two murders many years apart.  Erlendur is a great detective who doesn't give up when all hope is lost, he keeps digging and digging.  I give this book 4 stars out of 5 because it was a good read, a great story background for my favorite Icelandic detective. I look forward to more in this series,  A plug for my favorite Erlendur mystery is called Voices.  Voices the book still haunts me when I think about Iceland.  If you love mysteries this is one that will keep you thinking and pondering what life is really about.
Thank You Lisa for the review

Synopsis:
In Into Oblivion, a follow-up to the gritty prequel Reykjavik Nights, Arnaldur Indridason gives devoted fans another glimpse of Erlendur in his early days as a young, budding detective.

It is 1979, a few years after Reykjavik Nights closed, and Erlendur is now a detective, already divorced, and is working for the shadowy Marion Briem. A body of a man has been found in the blue lagoon, which has not yet become the tourist spot it is today. Apparently the victim fell from a great height, and at first the police investigate the possibility that he has been thrown out of an airplane.

In parallel, Erlendur is asked to investigate the cold case of a young girl who vanished into thin air on her way to school forty years earlier.
