Book Feature - Fingerless Gloves - Nick Orsini

FINGERLESSGLOVES by Nick Orsini

Fingerless Gloves

Tonight will be the most difficult night in 25-year-old Anton Duchamp’s life.

When his best friend James Squire is mysteriously rushed to hospital, Anton begins a night-long journey that takes him from shady, marijuana-smoke-filled apartments to ex-girlfriends’ bedrooms, and eventually back to his childhood home.

As the night unfolds, so do new revelations about Anton’s recreational drug use and his past failures. And as Friday night drags into Saturday morning, he learns of James’s deteriorating health. In a universe that has seemingly left him without a specific function, it takes a single night for Anton to realize that no one will ever hand him a meaning or a purpose.

Fingerless Gloves by Nick Orsini, which won the Fiction Fast-Track prize for new writing, is a story about best friends and the mistakes we never knew we were making. It is a story about remembering – by any means necessary.

A SNEAK PEEK INSIDE:
“Solo dolo is defined on Urban Dictionary as “to do things by yourself (solo) and on the down low (dolo). Tonight, I’m pretty sure I have the first half of the definition down, but I’m not sure what I’m doing is on the “down low.” In fact, I’m out in public…and as far from low as anyone has ever been. I think people give being alone this bad rap, like it’s something to pushers and freaks…and any normal person should have at least one friend, one accomplice, one tagalong. Fact is, on some nights, during your most formative times, you often find yourself alone, whether it’s intentional or not. There you are, solo…trying to hide something. Trying to justify some nasty, developing habit that the world has written off as lawless and wrong.”

LATEST REVIEW:
“Written in a style that keeps the reader wondering what happens next. The story starts with James dying and ends with James dying, but what comes in between is a madcap adventure of two young men who have what a lot of people want…genuine friendship. I enjoyed reading this book!!” Celtic Lady’s Reviews

“This is the product of a ton of hard work. Extremely proud of all this as it serves as proof that good writing can come from anywhere. Best of luck to Nick and this book. Makes me have faith in writing and publishing again!” 5★

“Nick Orsini certainly has a talent for storytelling; that much is undeniable. His use of words to tell his narrator’s thoughts was crisp and fluid. The stories he tells speak to the high schooler, the friend, the son in all of us; they are familiar yet original.” 4★

“I read this book over the course of two days. I simply could not get enough. Throughout the entirety of this exciting novel, the main character, Anton, heads onto memorable adventure after memorable adventure. You simply cannot believe what happens to Anton in one simple night!
Fingerless Gloves speaks to the 20-something in all of us. Replaying events from our past, living in the present, justifying bad choices, and simply second guessing our every move. If you are interested in reading a unique and exciting novel, check this out!! I was pleasantly surprised.
Two thumbs up, Nick Orsini, I loved your first novel, and was equally impressed by your second. Now write the next one please! ) ” 5★

“This book is a delicate and hazy piece of stream-of-consciousness, familiar enough to make you feel nostalgic but fluid enough to keep you intrigued. Reads like the fictionalized autobiography of that kid you lost contact with after high school, in a good way. I look forward to seeing what’s next from Nick Orsini.” 4★

Hi. I'm Nick. I wrote my senior thesis paper on Blade Runner, then I finished college, then I had a mental breakdown. I live for small dogs with short legs, good sneakers, flannel, pop punk, YouTube videos played at half-speed. I love my sister because she talks smack, my parents because they're parent-cool, and my friends because they know that sometimes, if you laugh hard enough, you can pass fried rice out of your nostrils.

I write books and poems, but mostly stories ...stories about kids doing kid things and learning something, maybe nothing, along the way. I believe in the Church of Diamond Dallas Page and now vow to attend every Comic Con on the east coast.

Book Review - Do Monsters Wear Undies? - Mark Smith

Do Monsters Wear Undies?
Title:  Do Monsters Wear Undies

Author: Mark Smith

Review:  This book is cute with fun pictures and ideas about monsters wearing undies.    There is a colored calendar for the monsters so they know what days to wear undies and what days to go commando.  Some the the monsters are a bit strange which I guess is one reason they are called monsters….but the tall skinny monster with tighty whities?  HUMMMMM!  The book did make the little ones laugh and they of course are just wearing undies themselves and so it is a pretty hot topic for them.

If you have a child who is just wearing undies, or a boy who is into potty humor this is the book for them.  They can laugh at the monsters and the strange undies they wear on Sundays and Mondays.
