Book Review Broken Promise (Sons of Broad #3) by Tara Thomas

Broken Promise (Sons of Broad #3)
Title: Broken Promise (Sons of Broad #3)

Author: Tara Thomas

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
Broken Promises is part of a series and while it can be read as a stand alone novel I think readers will benefit from starting with book 1 instead of book 3.

Tara Thomas is able to bring readers into the world that is part soap opera with missing sisters, cheating spouses and a sister no one knew about.  Romance that will have readers needing more and mystery that will have readers needing more after that finished the book.

Broken Promises is a romance where readers know there will be a HEA but it isn't about finding out who is the killer or if they main characters find they are meant for each other.  This story is about the journey that brings two people who are meant to be together.

The banter at times flows will with the story and other time feels forced.  This is a must read for Romantic Suspense readers.

Book Review: The House at Saltwater Point (Lavender Tides #2) by Colleen Coble

The House at Saltwater Point (Lavender Tides #2)
Title: The House at Saltwater Point (Lavender Tides #2)

Author: Colleen Coble

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
The House at Saltwater Point is a interesting mystery filled with family drama and love.

Colleen Coble is able to paint a world where fictional characters pop off the pages and into the readers homes.

The House At Saltwater Point has a large cast of characters and I think a list of characters at the beginning of the story would help first time readers.  I will admit I mixed up a few Characters and who they were and related too. Readers are even introduced to long lost brothers who are found along with a possible sister.
Ellie is ever day woman who is flipping house and trying to balance family and co worker. When things take a turn for the worst everything moves so fast readers will be reading late into the night to figure out who the killer is.

Colleen Coble gives readers a more natural ending to the story that will leave readers satisfied.

Stars: 4 Stars

Review:
Lost Innocence starts off with sweet Nina Hutton enjoying her quite life than everything is turned upside down with someone breaking in her house, a new neighbor and his daughter moving in across the street and emotions no one wants to feel.

The author used certain charterers as placements until they were needed instead of using them throughout the story.
The story is more romance than mystery but its the characters builds that will have readers hooked to the story.
As the story ends readers will see the twist coming.  Its the emotions that come along that readers will not expect.

Add this to your summer to be read pile and enjoy.

Title: Jar of Hearts

Author: Jennifer Hillier

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
Jar of Hearts is told in the past and present with secondary characters readers will enjoy.  The story is full of emotions, suspense, told with a brutal truth no one wants to face in the story.
This story is dark gritty and will not be for everyone but warning when  you start reading you will not be able to stop.  Everything you fear will be found in this book and more.

Synopsis:
This is the story of three best friends: one who was murdered, one who went to prison, and one who's been searching for the truth all these years . . .

When she was sixteen years old, Angela Wong—one of the most popular girls in school—disappeared without a trace. Nobody ever suspected that her best friend, Georgina Shaw, now an executive and rising star at her Seattle pharmaceutical company, was involved in any way. Certainly not Kaiser Brody, who was close with both girls back in high school.

But fourteen years later, Angela Wong's remains are discovered in the woods near Geo's childhood home. And Kaiser—now a detective with Seattle PD—finally learns the truth: Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who murdered at least three other women.

To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But to Geo, he's something else entirely. Back in high school, Calvin was Geo's first love. Turbulent and often volatile, their relationship bordered on obsession from the moment they met right up until the night Angela was killed.

For fourteen years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For fourteen years, she carried the secret of Angela's death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison.

While everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep. And what happened that fateful night is more complex and more chilling than anyone really knows. Now the obsessive past catches up with the deadly present when new bodies begin to turn up, killed in the exact same manner as Angela Wong.

How far will someone go to bury her secrets and hide her grief? How long can you get away with a lie? How long can you live with it?

Book Review: Built to Last (Black Knights Inc. #12) by Julie Ann Walker

Built to Last (Black Knights Inc., #12)
Title: Built to Last (Black Knights Inc. #12)

Author: Julie Ann Walker

Stars: 3 1/2

Review:

Built To Last is possibly the last in the Black Knights Inc Series.  With all ends to a series it has a lot to live up to and it seems to be a tradition for authors to catch up readers with what is happening with couples from the other books.

Unfortunately this book falls flat that readers will skip to the end to find out how the author brought readers favorite couples to their Happily Ever After.

Angel and Sonya story is told though different points of view as well as flash backs that don't drive the story forward just fills in the holes when the romance takes over and Sonya fall quickly for Angel.  The story feels rushed leaving long times fan disappointed with the outcome of the two love stories.

The action and suspense didn't really live up to the exceptions.  It was slow, filled with too many monologues, bad dialogue, and a villain that could have been scary. Instead the author gave us a villain that was nothing more than a wasted character.

Built to Last falls flat in a story, feels unfinished, lacks character development and finishes out a series with a dud instead of a bang.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Sourcebooks for the advance copy of Julie Ann Walker Built To Last.

Synopsis:
Masterful, mysterious, and completely ruthless, Jamin “Angel” Agassi joined the Black Knights Inc. after a mission-gone-wrong forced him to undergo extensive plastic surgery and change his name. When a dark-eyed stranger gets caught up in Sonya’s latest mission, she starts to question all her hard-won instincts. Something about Angel tells her he's more than he seems, and sometimes, when she least expects it, he reminds her of a man she used to know. As the bullets fly, she realizes that in love and war nothing is ever what it seems.

Title: Major Crimes (Omega Sector: Under Siege #4)

Review:
Since this is story is part of a ongoing series I was able to pick up the story pretty fast.  The story is your basic romance with action mixed in. The characters are likable enough that if readers had started from the beginning of the series they would be more attached to the different characters mentioned though out the book.
The story moves at a fast pace will make it a fun fast read for the summer pool.

Book Review: Playing the Part by Robin Covington

Playing the Part
Title: Playing the Part

Author: Robin Covington

Stars: 3 1/2 stars

Review:

Playing The part is a your cheesy romance but has some truth about being in the public eye and how your are judge without anyone know who you really are and the struggles you face.
With that being said the story lacks character development. When the female lead Piper is introduced as strong but falls apart when the handsome leads wants into the room it makes you realize she is weak and lacks any time of strength.   It story would have more fun if Piper had more spunk and less blah.
The male lead Mick is boring lacks any type of sympathy and he is nothing more than a neanderthal who doesn't change or develop.
The book had sex in it that doesn't really do anything but get the reader all hot and heavy.  It doesn't add to the story because their isn't much of a story there to being with.

Book Review: Dead Girls (Normal #2) by Graeme Cameron

Dead Girls (Normal #2)
Title: Dead Girls (Normal #2)

Author: Graeme Cameron

Stars:

Review:
I didn't read the first book in the series and from what I can tell Dead Girls is a Stand Alone novel.
Dead Girls is a cat and mouse game from a police procedural side.  The story is more of a psychological thriller with Alisha Green unsure of what she remembers after being attacked by a killer in the first book.
While the story is quick moving the problem is the list of characters that will trip up readers as well as the author switching from first to third person throughout the book. Which is the reason for the 3 star review for the book.  Pick a voice do not keep switching because it will trip of readers.
Once the readers is able to understand the authors voice the story moves quickly but doesn't keep this readers interest because of the endless characters that had me lost who was who.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher  Park Row for a copy of Graeme Camerson's Dead Girls.

Synopsis:

Book Review Down Deep (Station Seventeen #4) by Kimberly Kincaid

Down Deep (Station Seventeen #4)
Title: Down Deep (Station Seventeen #4)

Author: Kimberly Kincaid

Stars: 4 stars

Review:
I had completely forgot I had read book 3 in this same series.  Which is how forgettable book 3 was.
Kimberly Kincaid redeem herself.  The characters jump off the page right away so you never questions why they are doing what they are going.  She is able to develop the characters more quickly without talking about their looks over and over again.  The story, sexual tension was perfect but after they have sex the main story drops off and the characters are filled with sex during the middle of the book but once again picks up right at the end.
The bad guy was creepy and the good guys where perfect.
Its a fast summer that fans of Station Seventeen will love.  If you want to start with book four it is a stand alone novel. The author updates readers throughout the book of what happened in the other stories without slowing down the pace of this story.

Shortly before she leaped from a San Francisco building, Didi’s profile was rising again, thanks to a tell-all book. To Detective Dani Settler, it looks like a straightforward suicide, or perhaps a promotional stunt gone wrong. But Remmi knows the truth isn’t so simple. Because though the broken body on the sidewalk is dressed in Didi’s clothes and wig, it isn’t Didi.

Remmi was fifteen when she last saw her mother. Their parting came in the aftermath of a terrible night in the Mojave desert when Remmi—who’d secretly stowed away in Didi’s car en route to meet her crush, Noah Scott—instead became witness to a mysterious rendezvous. If the victim isn’t Didi, who is it—and what’s the connection? Remmi is shocked when Noah resurfaces. He was also in the desert that night, and now runs his own PI firm. He too believes it’s time to find out what really happened. As they and Detective Settler dig deeper, the truth about Remmi’s missing family begins to emerge . . . a story of ruthless ambition and twisted lies that someone will kill again and again to keep hidden .

Book Review Relentless (Somerton Security #2) by Elizabeth Dyer

Relentless (Somerton Security #2)
Title: Relentless (Somerton Security #2)

Author:  Elizabeth Dyer

Stars: 5 stars out of 5

Review:
Relentless is the second in the Somerton Security series.  If you are considering this series I would say read book 1. This can be read as a stand a lone novel several time the different characters reference events that happened in the first book.  Elizabeth Dyer is able to bring her world to life with will crafted characters to scenes that will have readers feeling they are standing in the room.
The story does have pages of inner monologue that aren't always needed and slows down the story.  That being said during those long monologues readers are given a chances to get to know the different characters and are given a better understand of their action and reasons for their actions.
The story is predictable in many ways but its not about the surprises endings as much as it is the journey the characters take.  the story has romance, sex , action, and heart wrenching moments readers will be hooked and wanting more.

Book Review The Body in the Ballroom (Alice Roosevelt Mystery #2) by R.J. Koreto

The Body in the Ballroom (Alice Roosevelt Mystery #2)
Title: The Body in the Ballroom (Alice Roosevelt Mystery #2)

Author:R.J. Koreto

Star: 5 stars

Review:
A medium paced murder mystery that is full of droll dry wit if the reader is astute and able to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is an art, the in it's self, to be able to pluck forth a real life figure and then build a fictionalized story which will hold the reader's attention. This story held my attention from beginning to end and gave me a lot of chuckles while doing so.

I have rated this book 5 stars.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased opinion

Synopsis:
President Teddy Roosevelt’s daring daughter, Alice, leaps into action to exonerate a friend accused of poisoning a man just about everyone hated.

Alice Roosevelt, the brilliant, danger-loving daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt, has already risked an assassin’s bullet to solve one murder. She never expected to have to sleuth another, but she’d never pass up the opportunity, either. Anything to stave off boredom.

And such an opportunity presents itself when Alice is invited to a lavish ball. The high-society guests are in high spirits as they imbibe the finest wines. But one man, detested by nearly all the partygoers, quaffs a decidedly deadlier cocktail. An African-American mechanic, who also happens to be a good friend of former Rough Rider-turned-Secret Service Agent Joseph St. Clair, is suspected of the murder-by-poison, but Alice is sure he’s innocent and is back on the scene to clear his name.

From downtown betting parlors to uptown mansions, Alice and Agent St. Clair uncover forbidden romances and a financial deal that just might change the world. But neither Alice nor her would-be protector may survive the case at hand in The Body in the Ballroom, R. J. Koreto's gripping second Alice Roosevelt mystery.

Author: Toni Anderson

Stars: 5 Stars Can't Miss Summer Read

Review:
Having Read the first 8 Cold Justice Series I was wondering if this would be the one that failed the series.
I can officially say No.
Cold Blooded is one of the best in the series.  From beginning to end readers will be hook as Pip West tries to prove her best friend was murdered while dealing with the loss of her only family. Pip is a likable characters to the point she could be your best friend.
The adventure that moves though politics, policy, revenge and bio weapons will keep readers hooked until the very last words on the page.

The story romance is one that flows with the story line and doesn't impact anything or pull readers away.

Thank you to Toni Anderson for Advance Copy of Cold Blood.

Synopsis:
Disgraced investigative journalist Pip West is devastated when she discovers her best friend’s body face-down in a tranquil lake. When cops and federal agents determine that her friend overdosed then drowned, Pip knows they’re mistaken and intends to prove it.

Special Agent Hunt Kincaid doesn’t trust journalists and has no patience for Pip’s delusions, especially since her meddling could reveal why the FBI is interested in her friend’s last days. The dead scientist worked at the cutting edge of vaccine research and might have a connection to a new, weaponized, vaccine-resistant anthrax strain that just hit the black market.

…just turned deadly.

Pip is thrown off her game by grief and her unexpected attraction to the handsome federal agent. Hunt battles the same unwelcome pull, determined to resist the heat that threatens to consume them both. But the more Pip digs, the closer she gets to both the sexy FBI agent, and to a bio-weapons terrorist who’s more than capable of cold-bloodedly sacrificing anyone who gets in his way.

Book Review: Stand & Deliver (Men of Haven #5) by Rhenna Morgan

Stand & Deliver (Men of Haven #5)
Title:  Stand & Deliver (Men of Haven #5)

Author: Rhenna Morgan

Stars: 5 stars

Review:
For Romantic Suspense Readers this series should be at the top of your list of Summer reads.  FYI Steamy Sexy times.

Stand and Deliver is a fun feisty story that readers of romantic suspense and alpha men will fall head over heels in love with.
Rhenna Morgan series Men of Haven has me a little lost at first since it was my first book I have read by this author so jumping in at book 5 isn't always the best. With that being said this can be read as a stand alone novel.
Beckett Tate is very Alpha but he has a condition that most women miss understand. The author reached this topic out and was able to bring it into the light allowing readers to see a different side to the Alpha hear me roar male.
Gia Sinclair is feisty, fun, and kick butt strong.
The author is able to create a decent backstory that readers will be able to grab onto and watch as the past and present collide in a perfect storm.  Stand and Deliver has romance, action, steamy sexy times and easy fun dialogue.  I promise is you start with book 5 of the Men of Haven you will be spending the next month buying and reading book 1-4 to enjoy the different characters and stories Rhenna Morgan has to offer.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Carina Press for the Advance copy of Rhenna Morgan Stand and Deliver

Synopsis:

Security expert Beckett Tate has met his match in colleague Gia Sinclair. He longs to run his hands over each and every one of her lush curves. She’s wicked smart and wicked hot. He’s given her time to get used to the idea of “them,” but her time is up and he’s ready to go all in on claiming what’s his.

Despite her love of all things girlie, Gia’s no typical Southern belle. She’s built her skills and reputation in a field normally dominated by men, and now she has a kick-ass career she loves. She certainly doesn’t need a man to take care of her—especially not one who’s pure alpha. Still, Beckett’s the one man who can satisfy the desires she’s hidden under her tough exterior, and she’s hooked.

Letting Beckett take the lead in the bedroom comes naturally to Gia—not constantly proving herself to him professionally is more of a struggle. And when someone attacks her character and career, Gia and Beckett will have to find a balance: her willingness to let go just a little, with his trust in her abilities and his deep, primal need to protect his woman.
