Book Review - Dirty Little Secrets - Lillian Hart

17153446
Title:  Dirty Little Secrets
Author: Lillian Hart
Review:  J.J Graves is the Coroner for King George County Virginia and runs a Mortuary business -so dead bodies are her life. When a horrific murder happens in the small town of Bloody Mary- J.J, her best friend and Sheriff Jack Lawson try to bring justice to the victims.

I came across this book free on kindle and decided to give it a shot after all who doesn't love a good murder mystery book. The murder mystery has you guessing who done it until the very end of the book which in the end is a surprise even for me.  I love the female lead she is quirky, sweet and very like able. If anyone had a best friend growing who was a guy this book makes you laugh even more.

With the fun writing also came a lot of spelling, grammar and character issues that I had to struggle to get past.  In 24 hours J.J and an author Brody who wants to use her in his book have sex and fall in love quickly and to be honest it didn't flow quite right but it did leave for some funny moments and sad moments in the book. For example “I was sure we'd be late and then Jack would have the right to make fun of me for an indiscriminate amount of time.” I was wondering if she meant undetermined amount of time. Between book one and book two Jack went from 6’2 to 6’5, along with JJ being an average woman yet taller than about 5’10. Little things can throw a reader off taking the fantasy away. I love the friendship between JJ and Jack and the author made it so believable.

There is sex in this book but nothing overly graphic which this author is known for and there is quite bit of language in this book as well.  The author abruptly endless the book but after reading her next two Dirty Shame and Dirty Rotten Scoundrel it’s the way the authors writes.  I quite enjoy the series and man looking forward to the fourth in the series.

Thanks Heidi for this review.

Why I Read this Title:  Free on Kindle and I love mysteries

Synopsis:   J.J. Graves has seen a lot of dead bodies in her line of work...

She's not only in the mortuary business, but she's also the coroner for King George County, Virginia. When a grisly murder is discovered in the small town of Bloody Mary, it's up to J.J. and her best friend, Detective Jack Lawson, to bring the victim justice.

The murders are piling up...

The residents of Blood Mary are dropping like flies, and when a popular mystery writer shows up on J.J.'s doorstep with plans of writing his new book about the Bloody Mary Serial Killer, J.J. has to decide if he might be going above and beyond the call of duty to create the spine tinglers he's so well known for. It only clouds the issue and puts her reputation on the line when the attraction between them spirals out of control.

And passions are rising...

J.J and Jack are in a race against time. They discover each victim had a shocking secret, and the very foundation of J.J.'s life is in danger of crumbling when it turns out she’s harboring secrets of her own—secrets that make her the perfect victim in a deadly game.

Author Information:   Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).

Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn't imagine why people weren't knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn't all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.

Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

Site Review - Timeless You - Deepak Chopra

Author: Deepak Chopra
Review:  I was offered free access to this site for an honest review.  I have been looking at the site for a few weeks now and have completed some of the siminars – not spelled wrong by the way.  I have enjoyed the idea of changing my mind about aging.  I am 45 now and it is a pain to get old – everything hurts more and I seem to creak every morning like an old door.  I don't want to age faster than I already am – I have 5 active children- 4 still at home and I need the energy to deal with them and my husband-let alone work and full-time school as I work on my Master’s Degree in education.  I am busy and stressed from all the things I need to do- want to do – and think I should be doing – or others think I should be doing.

This site has some fantastic information on eating, exercise that you enjoy, stress reduction, aging and how to slow that down, a youthful mind (I must admit I am scared to death of losing what I have worked so hard to get – my grandmother has Alzheimer’s), healthy relationships (who doesn't need that?), the mind and body connection (my doctor told me that I have a gut that reacts to every thought I have and so I need to learn to relax so I can digest my food properly and not be nauseated most of the time).  This site has lots of information about the above topics and more.  The time needed to go through a siminar is mentioned at the beginning so you can dedicate that time to learning.

There is a cost to join and it is currently $29.99, but there is a 14 day money back guarantee included with the subscription.  This is an interactive site with videos, graphics to print and hang, and information we all can use.  There are also community boards for posting and following other participants.

I think this site is full of great information that anyone of can use – it is designed with the older adult in mind – but the information is important at any age.

Quick Review:  4 out 5 stars – 4 because I hate to pay for information.

Review:  An excellent romantic read that will keep the reader's interest without overpowering their common sense. The main character is a delight and will steal your heart and compassion. But, as with all romance stories, all will end well. I enjoyed this book and finished it in one day. I will read more books by this writer and give this one a five star rating.

Book Review - Louisiana Longshot - Jana Deleon

Title:  Louisiana Longshot
Author: JanaDeleon

Review:  CIA agent and sniper Fortune Redding is about to take on her most difficult mission ever- posing as former southern beauty queen turned librarian in the small town of Sinful Louisiana. Before unpacking her suitcase a bone is washed up in her backyard and the local deputy starts asking too many questions. Armed with her skills and two little old ladies Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder to keep her cover intact.

If you have ever lived in a small town this book has characters that ring true but with just enough exaggeration to make you laugh until your sides ache.  I love the fact the protagonist is an independent woman who takes charge and she doesn’t fall in love for the only single attractive male in the town.  I truly dislike the over used damsel in distress story and love when a mystery is the focus and if there is romance it’s a second or third part to the story.

I enjoy how the Jana has Fortune profile the people around her to figure out if they are a threat. Fortune is flawed which makes her human and makes for some great laughs. Ida Belle and Gertie the older than dirt grandmas will have you crying in tears from laughing so hard. This book has very little language and no sex but tons of laughs.

The story is far fetch but that is what makes it fun to read because why would you want to live in reality when you can live in Sinful where grandmas might be murders and CIA snipers live next door.

Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Synopsis:  It was a hell of a longshot...

CIA Assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever--in Sinful, Louisiana.

With a leak at the CIA and a price on her head by one of the world's largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small, bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she's determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play.

Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly-inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard. Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly-sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she's not careful, this investigation may blow her cover and get her killed.

Armed with her considerable skills and a group of old ladies referred to by locals as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it's too late.

Book Review - Murder Comes Unraveled - A Flock and Fiber Mystery #2 - Veryl Ann Grace

8197531_Cover Proof2.3950113
Title:  Murder Comes Unraveled (A Flock & Fiber Mystery #2)
Author:  Veryl Ann Grace

Review:  This is a mystery that moves along at a fair pace while delving into current social hot topic- concerning the victim and her brother. His bias is put forward in blunt terms and leaves no doubt were his feelings lay on the subject. The story is written and allows the reader to follow the plot to its conclusion. It also contained a fair bit of valuable information about fairs and how stall holders operate. I also enjoyed the information put forth about Great Pyrenees dogs and their working habits. I would rate this book at four stars and would read other books by this writer.

Great music to lift your heart and make the day a bit brighter for you and the ones you spend time with that day.

Book Review - The President's Henchman - Joseph Flynn

18670329
Title:  The President’s Henchman
Author:  Joseph Flynn
Review:   This is the first book I have read by this author and I was captivated by both his writing and storytelling style. The main character is the president's husband who is a retired policeman.  That was sufficient to catch my interest and read the book.

There are several subplots running concurrently and the author moves between them without leaving the reader wondering what is happening.  I found it difficult to put the book down as I was so engrossed in the story being weaved together piece by piece.  He made the AFOSI Special Agent seem completely real and play an interesting part in the overall plot. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to reading my next Joseph Flynn novel. I give this book a five star rating.

Why I Read this Title:  It sounded interesting.

Synopsis:  According to the polls, it's only a matter of time - and not that long a time - before the United States elects its first female president. Which will make her husband - what? Well, if he's the ex-cop who solved the murder of the president's first husband and brought the killers to justice ... and if he's not the kind of guy to stand on formality ... and if he doesn't want to be the head of the FBI ... and if he takes out a license and becomes the first private eye to live in the White House ... That would make him The President's Henchman. Jim McGill's first case is to find out who is stalking a member of the White House press corps, before that stalker turns the tables on McGill and maybe even threatens the president herself. He also has to be a shadow advisor to a young Air Force investigator who is looking into a he-said she-said charge of adultery leveled against a female colonel working at the Pentagon, a case with the potential to derail the new president's administration before it has a chance to begin.

Things we love review - Spray Tans - Norvell - 5 stars

With Minnesota white skin this winter I decided to give a spray tan a chance before going on a caribbean cruise- I met the women above who gave me the instructions and left me to undress.  The set up was in a small room with the pop-up you see in the background.  I undressed to a bikini bottom and then she came in to explain the procedure- she then started spraying my skin.  It was cold, but she took the time to evenly spray my front, back and both sides.  I was not to shower, use make-up or deodorant  - lotion - or anything on my skin for 8-24 hours- I felt sticky and needed old clothes to wear home incase the tan got on my clothes.

The next morning my skin was really dark - after I showered - patting dry only no rubbing - I looked completely natural but with a nice tan that was not to dark for my skin tone.  My feet looked fantastic against my pretty painted toes and most of my skin flaws - stretch marks - varicose veins - etc were not noticeable at all.  My husband also did this and looked great - we had a healthy sun kissed look but without the UV danger.

We flew to Florida and then off on the cruise - on the first morning Davids side of the bed had a funny stain from the tan - he sweats at night I guess because my side was all white.  My clothes never showed any color - I wore bikinis most of the time.  I was tanned nicely for the trip-

7 days and the sun I was getting seemed to blend well.  I was not as tan when I returned from Florida as I was when I left - I am a huge sunblock user and went through 2 large bottles of 70 spf for my body and 1 bottle for my face.  I didn't get burned and loved the trip.  My confidence was high with the tan I received allowing me to wear bikinis and feel fantastic about the way I looked.  Having 5 children can really wreak havoc with your body.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting some color without the danger of tanning beds and the sun.  I will be doing this again and again.  Hard to see the tan, but I felt and looked great.

Book Review - Counterfeit Conspiracies - Ritter Ames

18748465
Title:  Counterfeit Conspiracies
Author:  Ritter Ames
Review:   Laurel Bachman grew up in wealth and society until her grandfather died and her father gambled away the family fortune. Now Laurel is working her contacts in wealth social circles as a Premier art recovery expert for museums and families around the world.  Her current assignment pits her against Jack Hawkes who is her equal and pops into Laurels life when she least expects.

The author Ames Ritter takes you on a fast paced adventure ride though the world of art without losing the reader along the way. The author creates her own American Laura Croft and James bond- but she made them likeable and relatable - but with a twist.  The book takes you on car chases, shooting, great locations around the world all in the hopes of finding a missing friend and lost artifact.  I read the book three times enjoying each time and loving the fact I couldn't find spelling errors in my Kindle addition.

If you like the old school James bond mixed with a better written Laura Croft I think you are in for a real treat.

The is no sex in the book and hardly any language if any.

Thanks so to Heidi for this review.
